For many years, Zac
Posen has been working with some of the biggest names in the celebrity world as
a fashion designer. Teaming up with Katie Holmes, Oprah, Michelle Obama,
Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker, and more, his reputation has only grown from
strength to strength after starting at design school at the tender age of 16.
Now, it seems it’s all coming to an end after Posen announced the closure of
his fashion label.
Named after
himself, the fashion label launched way back in 2001. In the years since, it
has become synonymous with glamorous ball
gowns.
Around 18 years later, there are a number of occasions where his fashion has
been in the spotlight. For example;
- Claire Danes’ Cinderella gown at the
2016 Met Gala
- Rihanna’s pink satin dress for the 2014
Diamond Ball
- Princess Eugenie’s dress for her own
wedding reception

Strived
for
Greatness
Born and raised in
New York City, he once said that his love for fashion started as a young child.
When visiting the synagogue of his grandparents, he would take yarmulkes and
then fashion them into dresses for dolls. When he eventually reached 16, he
interned with Nicole Miller and attended the precollege program at Parsons
School of Design.
After this, he
decided to spend some time across the pond after being accepted into the
University of Arts London’s Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design.
At the turn of the millennium, one of his early gowns went into the
‘Curvaceous’ exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Soon after,
he graduated and headed home, where he first started to get attention for his
work. By 2002, he had a fall collection and an independent runway show.
Celebrities
Pay Tribute to Fashion Legend
Since Posen has
worked with so many stars over the years, it perhaps isn’t surprising to see
many names speaking out about the sad news. Firstly, we should note that Posen
himself, once a judge on Project Runway, said that he was ‘deeply saddened’.
However, he was also ‘grateful’ to the whole team and proud of what
the brand had achieved
in a relatively short period of time.
Back in 2006, Bryce
Dallas Howard married her husband in a Zac Posen gown and she took to Instagram to say ‘your artistry is a gift
that we are so lucky to receive’. Meanwhile, Jessica Vosk, known for her
time on Broadway, said ‘my friend Zac changed my life in so many ways over
the past few years…’.
For others, they
believe that Posen will never step away from the world of fashion because his
talent is too strong. Lauren Santo Domingo, founder of Moda Operandi, said that
the ‘best is yet to come’ with Posen.
As well as working
with all sorts of film stars and singers, Zac Posen has won plenty of awards
and it’s almost certain that he will enjoy success in whatever he chooses next!
