Summer is in full swing – time to double down on your workout routine for that drop-dead gorgeous body you’ve always wanted.
Thankfully, celebrity personal trainer Amy Rosoff Davis is on hand to share tips and training routine she uses with her high-profile clients.
We recently caught up with the health guru, actress, and mom to pick her brains on how Selena Gomez was able to transform her body to fabulously toned mid-section.
Pilates! Amy revealed if you’re interested in getting abs like Selena’s; then, you definitely want to make Pilates a must. “Selena has been a Pilates superfan for like forever. She loves Pilates and hot Pilates too,” she said.
“We do a lot of Pilates, and although not everyone has access to a Pilate machine, you can do the workout anywhere, without it.”
She went on ‘I recommend using a bar or two one-pound weights, and then punch your arms forward and back, or up and down holding that 45-degree angle while someone’s holding your feet.”
We also do a ton of plank work which usually, I’d push for a varied plank instead of just doing the basic planks everyone is used to.
“Often, we do a plank while taking turns tapping the opposite arm to the opposite shoulder. Or, lifting and lowering one leg rhythmically. Or, going from your elbow to your arms and back again on your elbow while tilting your hips.”
The reason, according to Amy for the plank variations is to avoid boring routine; plus, the different plank moves help activate the core.
In addition to Pilates and Planks, Amy says she puts Selena through a series of cardio works two to five times a week depending on whether they’re on tour or not.
Amy revealed that the star’s workout routine changes depending on whether she’s on tour or set shooting a movie.
“When we were touring, some days we were flying all day, and some days we had four days off, and we would go hiking and then go to the gym. So, with her lifestyle adjusting, we were always just trying to incorporate as much fitness and cardio in as possible. There was a lot of jet lag, and working out is a great way to deal with jet lag.”
In another interview with Cosmopolitan, the celebrity trainer said she isn’t a fan of weight. And, doesn’t allow her clients to use the scale.
“I’ve never weighed her. I think it breeds obsessive thoughts and behaviors,” she said.
“If you work out and eat healthily, your body should do the rest! When you have a healthy mind, body, and soul, – the results will come. I prefer the jean test. You know how your pants fit, so go off of that instead of a number. What does it even to weigh a certain number, right?”
And while working out, pay attention to your body. “Listening to your body is a big thing of mine. Pushing it when you can push it, but also really knowing when it needs to rest or maybe just doing a yoga class or a stretch session.”
