Just last month,
Miley Cyrus was hospitalized, and it was announced that she was struggling with
tonsillitis. At the same time, it seems the doctors identified a further problem,
and this has now culminated in surgery for the ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer. After
noticing the problem, doctors advised that she underwent vocal cord surgery
before the end of 2019.
Thanks to a source
close to Miley, we can reveal that she is now out of
hospital and that the surgery has been completed. Of course, this means that a
quiet spell will follow from the normally vocal and active 26-year-old. For
most, they’re told that a full recovery takes a number of weeks. For somebody
who relies on their voice for a career, we can perhaps expect the silence to
last a little longer. Even if she wants to get back into the recording studio
quickly, we’re sure those around her will suggest otherwise.

Problems for Miley
As mentioned, it’s been a rocky couple of months for Miley (without even mentioning her broken down marriage to Liam Hemsworth). It all started with tonsillitis-like symptoms, and the doctor confirmed this health problem shortly after. In response, Miley posted on her Instagram Story and described tonsillitis in words we can’t repeat here.
What’s more, she
posted a picture of her new boyfriend, Cody Simpson, visiting her while in
hospital. With the caption ‘arrives with roses and his guitar in hand’,
it was a post that melted the hearts of Miley fans while angering those on the
Hemsworth side of the raging war.
Now that the
surgery has been completed, Miley is back home again and we’re sure it will be
weeks before she returns to action. Although she hasn’t yet commented on the situation,
we can expect something soon considering Miley is never far from social media.
Occupational
Hazard for Performers?
Over the years,
many singers have encountered problems with their throat and vocal cords, and
perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising since the megastars do dozens (or even
hundreds) of shows each year.
Vocal issues have
long been a problem for singers and one of the earliest examples that swept the
public was Whitney Houston in the 1980s. For some, it’s a case of so-called
‘oversinging’. For others, it’s a lack of rest between performances and simply straining
the voice severely over a period of time.
In recent years,
Adele has been an example of vocal trouble. Despite three award-winning albums,
the Brit has undergone vocal surgery and has spoken out
about her issues
previously. Additionally, back in 2011, John Mayer was on the operating table
for granuloma – a buildup of granulation tissue. Also, Sam Smith once cancelled
tour dates after experiencing bleeding vocal cords. In total, it took around
three months for the singer to recover.
Good luck to Miley
in her recovery; let’s hope she’s back and bringing us fantastic music again
very soon!
