Tom Cruise is about to grace the screens again in an action-packed, speedy “Top Gun: Maverick” due in theaters June 24. The Mission Impossible actor’s need for speed has seen him attempt to fly an F-18.

Jerry Bruckheimer Says Cruise Does Not Pilot an F-18

In one of the interviews given about the highly anticipated “Top Gun” sequel, Jerry Bruckheimer who is one of the producers of the movie confirmed that Tom Cruise did not pilot the F-18 in “Top Gun: Maverick.” The Navy had to decline this civilian request from the A-list actor.

According to the producer, the Navy would not let Tom Cruise fly an F-18. However, the actor was allowed to fly a P-51 in the movie as well as helicopters. “He can do just about anything in an airplane,” Bruckheimer tells Empire Magazine.

What Fans Should Expect from “Top Gun: Maverick”

Fans and movie enthusiasts should expect exhilarating action sequences in “Top Gun: Maverick,” the sequel to the 1986’s “Top Gun.” The trailers showcase glimpses of these, thanks to powerful IMAX cameras that were mounted strategically in the cockpits of the F-18s flown by top Navy pilots.

Tom Cruise along with co-stars Glen Powell and Miles Teller had to undergo aerial boot camp before proving their mettle in front of the cameras.

“When you are pulling heavy Gs, it compresses your skull, your spine. It makes some people delirious, and some can’t handle it,” says Cruise who is also one of the producers of the film. He was also responsible for arranging the intense and impressive training of his co-stars.

“So I had to get them up to be able to sustain high Gs because they have to act in the plane. I can’t have them sick the whole time,” Cruise added.

Bruckheimer has promised that fans will be thrilled to experience what it is like to be in an F-18’s cockpit with those pilots.

Paramount Studios Maintains Release Date amid the Coronavirus Pandemic

Many movie studios have cleared out most of the upcoming releases, no thanks to the wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Paramount Studios is not toeing that path. The movie studio has maintained the June 24 release date for “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Expect Less CGIs

Only a few top-secret plot specifics from the screenplay penned by Chris McQuarrie were revealed in the interview. But there is no doubt that Tom Cruise will live up to and surpass the expectations of theatergoers with edge-of-the-seat action.

And do you know that the actor himself performed most of the stunts in the movie? Cruise is one of the few actors that seem to detest the use of CGIs in films that he actively participates in. His daredevil stunts in the “Mission Impossible” movies are practically second to none.

Tom Cruise returns to mentor a new generation of pilots in the hotly anticipated “Top Gun: Maverick” as one of his most iconic characters, Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
