New DC head James Gunn has already called the new Flash film “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”Of course, the fans’ judgment is yet to pour in as Warner Bros. plans on releasing the movie soon. The film is based on one of the most popular Flash storylines of all time, Flashpoint.
The story has previously been adapted into an animated film for the DCAU and was very successful. This live-action version has had some changes, but it brings back popular faces along with new ones that people would love. Now, the film also has the backing of one of Hollywood’s most esteemed stars, Tom Cruise.
Cruise and Flash
Tom Cruise landed the opportunity to watch the film before its release when he met with David Zaslav, the chairman of Warner Bros. Discovery. Zaslav must’ve mentioned how great the new film was, and it immediately took Cruise’s interest. The actor then asked if he could watch it, and Zaslav agreed.
It was all kept under wraps, though. The CEO of the massive production house couldn’t risk leaking their latest, most ambitiously hyped films. An employee was sent over to Cruise’s place in Beverly Hills to hand deliver the film to him. The secrecy was so well kept that the employee stayed with Cruise until the actor had finished watching the film, after which the copy was returned to Warner Bros. as the employee returned with it.
Tom Cruise has been thoroughly impressed by the film, saying things like “everything you want in a movie” and “this is the kind of movie we need now,” of course, it could all be a PR stunt, but rumors around the new Flash movie are really hyping the film up. Moreover, many fans expect great things since the storyline is already well-known and popular.
However, fans are also expecting a certain change in the storyline.
Flash So Far
In Flashpoint, Reverse Flash, Flash’s nemesis messes up the timeline forcing Barry to stay in a different altered timeline where things have gone wrong, and Barry can’t escape without making them right. Changes are expected in this usual twist where there is no Reverse Flash. Instead, it’s just two Barrys trying to survive together in the messed up timeline.
The film has brought back to life previous Batman actor Michael Keaton who played the character in Tim Burton’s Batman films which were a wild success financially, with the first Batman film making over $40 million. It starred stars like Keaton, Jack Nicholson as, The Joker as well as Kim Basinger.
Now, Keaton reprises his role as the caped crusader but will likely be playing Bruce’s father, Thomas Wayne, a grizzlier version of the original Batman. This is according to the storyline. Many fans are speculating that Keaton might, in fact, just be Bruce from a parallel universe after all.
Along with Keaton, Ben Affleck is also making a comeback in what probably is his last outing as Batman. The actor was first seen in Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Since then, Affleck has been seen dawning the cape in films like Suicide Squad and Justice League.
Most interestingly, Ezra Miller has kept their role as The Flash even after their controversial and harmful behavior in recent years. Miller was accused of grooming and kidnapping as well as assaulting people.
DC heads Gunn and Safran decided to keep their dealings with Miller intact if the actor promised to seriously rethink their behavior and go through psychological treatments to get better. Miller may continue to be Flash for future films as well.
