Tom Cruise Gets A Five Minute Applause

Tom Cruise is a household name at this point in his career. The man has created a unique legacy out of playing action heroes, doing his own stunts, and being surrounded by controversy. This time, however, Cruise is on Hollywood’s good side thanks to his latest film Top Gun: Maverick.

The film is a sequel to Cruise’s original 1986 film Top Gun. The film is currently being predicted as the likely winner for Best Film at the Oscars this year. Other contenders include Elvis, The Whale, and, Everything Everywhere All At Once. No matter who wins, Cruise’s best week won’t be taken away by anyone or anything.

Tom Cruise Mocked and Applauded

At the Director’s Guild Awards this year, comedian-director Judd Apatow took multiple jabs at Cruise for many things. Apatow mocked his short height (the actor is 5 inches 7 feet tall,) his knack for doing his stunts himself, and his ties with the Church of Scientology. The cruise was not present at the award ceremony at the time. Was there a chance he would walk up to Apatow and slap him? Who knows? Likely not, since he has been applauded just about everywhere else.

Recently, Cruise was embraced by director Steven Spielberg who was overjoyed with the film’s performance. The two have previously worked together on the Sci-fi film War of The World and Minority Report. Spielberg was overheard saying:

“You saved Hollywood’s ass, and you might have saved theatrical distribution.” The reason? Cruise urged Paramount pictures not to release Top Gun: Maverick for streaming during the pandemic. Instead, they decided to release it directly to theatres reviving the falling economy of films. After the Oscars nominees‘ luncheon, Cruise went over to the CAA agent’s offices, and as he was passing by, everyone came out of their offices to welcome their star for helping with the revival of cinema.

Cruise has clearly had a rollercoaster of a week.
