Ok, before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s step back a bit. Before now – this summer that is, tie-dye was dead, buried, and forgotten.
It used to be the stuff of high school arts and crafts. Then, boredom cure for middle school kids that preferred matching tees to gravy bracelets. And a part of the hippie sub-culture in the ‘60s and ‘70s with its free-spirit rock music, sexual emancipation, and bohemianism.
Until Beyoncé happened – she was spotted wearing it on holiday on the beach. Dree Hemingway decided to wear the look to a red-carpet event, and the youngest of the Kardashian clan, Kylie Jenner went gaga wearing a tie-dye manicure which has all but sealed the trend as a high-fashion hot look.
This new trend, however, became a runaway fav when the LA cult brand The Elder Statesman made it a significant core of its vibrant Californian-inspired collections. Then, last summer, Prada, Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler, and R13 showcased it as part of their summer collections.
And if we are to go by what Lyst, the largest fashion search platform in the world said, the term “tie-dye” is one of the highest searched terms by fashion enthusiasts seeking to replicate some of the looks they saw on the runway.
Proenza Schouler’s turtleneck is the ninth hottest women look and according to the shopping app liketoknow searched for “tie-dye shirts” are up by 900 percent compared to last month.
Earlier this month, Kylie Jenner posted an adorable picture of herself and daughter, Stormi, twinning in vibrant multi-color tie-dye dresses.
The post which she captioned: “my real life bestie” sparked a new debate with her followers as they debated who Stormi resembled – Travis Scott or Jenner?
The young billionaire and the keeping up with the Kardashians star also shared a picture of her colorful tie-dye manicures which proves beyond doubt tie-dye is genuinely back and cool again.
For trendy swimsuit chaser, you may want to look toward Camila Mendes for your beach going, holiday look.
Camila Mendes was spotted wearing a cool tie-dye swimsuit casually lounging and sunbathing alongside Charles Melton, her boyfriend the Riverdale co-star.
And now that summer is here, we’ve seen a slew of celebrities rock the tie-dye trend. From the supermodel sisters, Bella and Gigi Hadid spotted wearing crop tops and short sets on their girls’ day out to Disneyland.
Gigi opted for a fabulous matching Cotton Citizen splattered with hot pink and white dyed crop tank paired with same design high-waisted biker shorts. Her sister, Bella on the other hand, wore a super casual low-rise sweat short which she paired with tight UNIF To-Go Tank.
Not to be left out of the tie-dye summer trend, Madison Beer, the 20 years old musician was spotted sporting an oversized tie-dye hoodie paired with cycling shorts for retail therapy.
