THE NATIONAL BOARD OF REVIEW

The National Board Of Review continues to show commitment in providing cinema support together with fully backing the arts and entertainment industry. This has gone on for over a century since 1909.

Every year, film enthusiasts, academics as well as filmmakers and professionals who come from different backgrounds and of different age groups come together. This group collectively views more than 250 films and engage in discussions with producers and screenwriters as well as directors and actors. They then go on to announce the selections that they consider to be the best for the year.

It first cited cinematic achievements at the end of the year in 1929. Since then, the National Board Of Review has gone ahead to give recognition to so many films in different categories such as studio, animated, independent, as well as foreign language and documentary. These recognitions have often been the factor that propelled the recipients into even bigger awards. A very vivid example is Mad Max which was produced in 2015 by George Miller.

In order to honor its ex-member as well as film historian, film history awards have been giving out in honor of William K. Everson. The National Board Of Review happens to be the only one when it comes to film organizations that does this and it continues to do so.

Then again, the organization has so many values and part of its core is to identify new talent as well as nurture young filmmakers. This is the inspiration behind the award of the Directorial Debut. Also, the Breakthrough Actor award is bestowed together with grants to promising students that are currently making strides in the film industry. The NBR also facilitates community outreach as it has different organizations supporting it.

These organizations include the likes of Educational Video CenterThe Ghetto Film School, as well as Reel Works Teen Filmmaking. As it continues to show a commitment towards assisting fairly new artist to complete and present their works, the National Board of Review continues to maintain its dedication to making sure that films are made to be of the highest quality.
