The Last of Us, the hit TV show, has been making strides ever since it was announced. The brilliant show casted Pedro Pascal in the titular role of Joel from the famous video games and Bella Ramsay as Ellie. The show was all hyped up and for all the right reasons. HBO has truly outdone itself this time around. HBO announced that the hit show featured its very first episode, and it closed with around 40 million viewers watching the show. Now, with the season finale out, the show has outdone House of the Dragon regarding viewership.

Zombies Vs. Dragons

House of the Dragon garnered around 29 million viewers in its entire run. This means that the last few episodes of The Last of Us getting over 30 million viewers have far outdone the prequel of Game of Thrones. While both the shows are much loved, the sudden rise in the Pedro Pascal fandom and the original game’s hype helped make the show more popular among younger viewers.

For the season finale, around 8.2 million viewers chimed in to watch the glorious end of the first season of the hit show. The total of 40 million also accounts for the viewers that got to enjoy an episode a week early when one of the episodes was aired prior to the Super Bowl to avoid a collision of viewership. Most of these viewers come from HBO Max, where the show gets streamed originally.

This almost 40 million viewers bring The Last of Us close to the original viewership of HBO’s Game of Thrones which aired before HBO Max was announced. Game of Thrones managed to garner upwards of 44 million viewers by its final episode aired on the cable network. The next seasons of The Last of Us have already been announced to adapt the next part of the video game in two parts.
