Netflix has recently taken several initiatives to secure its status as the most popular streaming provider. With Hulu, HBO, and Disney+ all competing for viewers’ attention, the streaming service is in desperate need of new material and skills to keep up.

Nevertheless, Spielberg is one of Hollywood’s most well-known figures. He’s the genius mind of enduring classics like Jaws, E.T., and Saving Private Ryan and is generally regarded as one of the greatest directors in movie history. In 2015, Spielberg co-founded Amblin Partners, an entertainment business that swiftly teamed up with Universal Pictures. Lately, Universal has released numerous large Amblin films, such as the Oscar-winning Green Book and 1917. Amblin’s quest for expansion and new viewers and fans and has resulted in yet another extensive collaboration.

Spielberg has reached a contract with Netflix, according to News Media. Amblin Partners will generate numerous films for the streaming service each year, in addition to fulfilling to do so for Universal. Ted Sarandos, co-founder and top content executive of Netflix, called Spielberg a “creative genius and visionary” in a comment, adding that the company is “proud and excited to be part of this report of Steven’s movie history.” Here’s what Spielberg had to say about the contract below:

At Amblin, storytelling will always be at the heart of everything we do. It was clear from the beginning that Ted and I had a fantastic chance to reveal new stories together again and increase visibility in unique ideas. This new path for our films, in addition to the stories we’ll keep telling with our lifelong family at Universal as well as other partners, would be amazingly satisfying for me individually because we’ll be doing it with Ted, and I can’t wait to get back with him, Scott [Stuber, Netflix’s Head of Global Film], and the whole Netflix team.

Some may be surprised by the news, given Spielberg’s criticism of streaming platforms two years ago. “His team argues he never said it or anything he might have said was horribly taken out of context,” according to News Media. It’s worth mentioning that Netflix and Amblin have previously collaborated on works such as The Trial of the Chicago 7, indicating that the producer is comfortable working with the streaming service.

The statement demonstrates Netflix’s commitment to success and development. Streaming always has been a competitive business; however, with the recent pandemic outbreak, the stakes have been raised dramatically. Netflix has been releasing one film each week to combat Disney+’s ambition to release 100 new movies per year. The relationship between the streamer and Amblin demonstrates its desire to make high-quality films and offer additional content every year. Netflix is in desperate need of a stimulus following the discontinuation of several shows, including Jupiter’s Legacy and Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!, as well as The Irregulars. Neither of these movies was inexpensive to produce, highlighting the need for Netflix to enhance its programming quality. Netflix is guaranteeing audiences some of the best films coming with a mastermind like Spielberg on board.
