Senior animator Ere Santos has disclosed that Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse has a mature plot and is absolutely not a ‘kid’s movie’. The film, which also has Indian actor Dhanush voicing a character called Pavitr Prabhakar, will release next year.

Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse is one of the most awaited movies coming out next year. The sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, will be released in theatres next summer. Now, senior animator, Ere Santos has acknowledged that the sequel is not a ‘kid’s movie’.

Ere Santos said, “It was a really difficult project. So it was a lot of frustrating times, something every production has. But what sort of kept us going was we’d be frustrated, or something would alter, or a sequence was cut, and then we’d see a new render, and we’d be like, ‘Okay, all right? Let’s go, let’s go,’ And also, some of the alternative characters made in the narrative were like, ‘What? Okay, all right. This is a kid’s movie? I guess it’s not a kid’s film. Okay, cool. Yeah, that’s good.’ So it’s very, very, super exhilarating to me.”

Talking about the grown-up elements of the film, Ere Santos further spoke in an interview with The Direct, “I presume, to be more clear, it’s just the various art styles that they have, the various effects that they have on the different visuals, and the different worlds you travel to and it’s very thrilling. A lot of stuff that’s been said already, but from an insider viewpoint, I’ve seen stuff in the movie that I’ve never seen in art before. And I’m very, very eager for the world to see.”

Earlier this month, it was guaranteed that The Spot, spoken by Jason Schwartzman, will be the baddie in the next two sequels. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hits theaters on June 2, 2023.
