It’s hard to think that Shawn Mendes is still only 20 years old, right? After starting on Vine and uploading his favorite covers for the world to see, his career has really taken off. Now, it looks as though nothing will stop him.
In the past five years, Mendes has released three different albums while enjoying success in the United Kingdom as well as the United States and his home country of Canada. With songs like Stitches and There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back, his combination of pop and folk pop continues to impress.
Youngest Member of the Forbes Earnings List
Despite not yet being able to spend his money on alcohol, it’s thought that Shawn Mendes earned just short of $40 million last year. With this, he was the youngest member of the 100 Highest-Paid Celebrity list produced by Forbes.
Although just sneaking into the top 100 for the first time, it still put him above Celine Dion and among the likes of Calvin Harris, Kendrick Lamar, and even sports stars like Brandin Cooks, Paul George, and Rory McIlroy.
At the age of just 20, his talent suggests that he will remain on this list for some time to come. In terms of young talent, Kylie Jenner and Ariana Grande are the only three from the youngest ten who weren’t from the world of sport.
Successful Spell for Mendes
How did it happen? Well, his net worth has been steadily growing over the past few years. In 2017, his Illuminate tour grossed over $30 million and this was just the start. Two years later, a second tour grossed much more. Although the name itself perhaps lacked in creativity – Shawn Mendes: The Tour – Billboard reported that it earned $75 million for the young sensation.
At this point, we should note that Shawn doesn’t get every cent of this amount since there are plenty of people, venues, and services to be paid from this sum. Yet, it goes some way to explaining how Mendes now finds himself on the top earnings list.
If we look at the music itself, he is the third-youngest musician to have three albums reach the top spot on the Billboard charts; only Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus were younger.
Endorsements and Sponsorships
Away from the touring and music, Shawn Mendes has also found success with endorsements in recent years. We’re now seeing him on TV while also hearing his voice pop up on YouTube ads and other sources, and this is thanks to deals with Calvin Klein, Emporio Armani, and Smile Direct Club.
At this rate, it won’t be long before Mendes surpasses names that have been in the industry for a number of years. Will a successful 2019/20 push him closer to the likes of Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran? Only time will tell, and we can’t wait to find out (while enjoying his amazing music along the way, of course!).
