Serena Williams One Step Closer to Fashion Designer Status

When it comes to women’s tennis, there’s one name that most people know regardless of whether or not they follow the sport; Serena Williams. After nearly two decades in the spotlight, and winning everything on offer, the 37-year-old may just be coming to the end of her career. However, that determination and passion isn’t to go to waste as she continues her path in the fashion world.

Back in 2018, the self-titled fashion line launched, and Serena has just announced a 24-hour shopping party for New York Fashion Week. According to Serena herself, she said in an interview with Essence

‘My biggest joy is that I know that I’m doing something that I’ve always wanted to do, that I always dreamed of doing.’

Representing All Women

Elsewhere, the tennis star said that the brand will always represent women around the world. For mothers, sisters, daughters, whether businesswomen or full-time mothers, they will find a place with Serena’s fashion lines. She said, ‘outsiders and underdogs, little girls with crazy dreams and unflinching women of color’, her clothes will represent everybody.

For those following Serena’s career, they’ll know that this isn’t just a knee-jerk decision. Before launching her own line, she had been investing in various startup companies for around five years. With S by Serena, her passion for fashion is clear and industry experts can’t wait to see the shopping party on September 10.

Pregnancy Fashion

Two years ago, Serena and husband Alexis Ohanian welcomed a beautiful baby daughter into the world, and it seems the pregnancy experience has motivated Serena in this venture. She noted how dressing up during pregnancy was so difficult; she wanted to feel ‘fabulous’ but also hated the pain that came with wearing heels. If you’ve ever taken your heels off under the table in a restaurant while eating, don’t feel bad because Serena admitted to doing the same.

If we needed any more reason to be impressed with Serena, just look at the picture taken the DAY BEFORE the birth. It’s clear that looking glamorous is important to the star, and she said she tried to keep to this after giving birth. With this, S by Serena contains clothing for women across all aspects of life.

We all have jobs, events, and other commitments. At the same time, we also just want to spend time with friends and family to let our hair down. Serena says, ‘we may just be walking around the house as a mom’. Therefore, it was important for the line to reach out to all areas of ‘that woman’.

Next month, S by Serena will be showcased in the New York Fashion Week proceedings and the industry is getting excited. How far will Serena go? If the same resilience she uses in tennis is applied to fashion, we’ve no doubt that her second career will be successful!
