Phoebe Waller-Bridge is an extremely well-recognized name and face in the industry. She has received countless accolades for her work in Fleabag. The description of the show goes like this:
‘A dry-witted woman, known only as Fleabag, has no filter as she navigates life and love in London while trying to cope with tragedy.’
Fleabag was a game-changer in terms of storytelling. Waller-Bridge not only played but also wrote the script and plot of the show. Now, she is all set to adapt the novel Sign Here written by Claudia Lux. For this reason, she has recently extended her partnership with Amazon.
Waller-Bridge’s Involvement
Phoebe Waller-Bridge shot to success after the hit show Fleabag, but it isn’t the only title under her belt. She has co-written films like James Bond: No Time To Die and shows such as Killing Eve. Amazon Studios had announced last year that they had greenlit another show by Waller-Bridge, but no revelations were made regarding the project itself. Now, after months of waiting, it has become clear that Lux and Waller-Bridge are working very closely together to adapt the book into a darkly comedic TV show for Amazon.
For this very reason, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has renewed her deal with Amazon, and they will be working together for the next three years. The previous three year deal was about to run out if the reports are to be believed, and Amazon has had a straightforward yet aggressive approach in trying to get Waller-Bridge’s favor. The renewal is an indication that Amazon Studios will once again be the home of Phoebe’s brand new project, which suits her taste well. Waller-Bridge is obsessed with the idea of dark comedies and fantasies that are presented in a laughable manner. Hence, Sign Here is the perfect project for her.
About Sign Here
The book by Claudia Lux was first published on 25th October 2022. It’s a very recent publication that is still attempting to make a major mark in the industry. However, it would seem that it has been significant enough to catch the attention of Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Lux will be working very closely with Phoebe to give justice to the original plot of her book. Here is a brief description of what the book is about:
‘A darkly humorous, surprisingly poignant, and utterly gripping debut novel about a guy who works in Hell (literally) and is on the cusp of a big promotion if only he can get one more member of the wealthy Harrison family to sell their soul.’
Lux will be writing the script for the adaptation, while Waller-Bridge will be an executive producer who has no role in writing the script whatsoever. It is fresh and fascinating to see that the original author has been given full responsibility for writing the script of a show based on her book. Sign Here is Claudia Lux’s debut novel, and it has been received with mixed feelings. What the show has in store for everyone remains to be seen.
In Ultimatum
Phoebe Waller-Bridge picking up a project based on a darkly satirical quirky novel should come as a surprise to absolutely no one. She’s had a taste for the twisted and the funny ever since she stepped foot in the writing business. Sign Here is going to be one hell of a different ride for her, with the themes of hell mixed up in all the chaos. Her immediate next project is with her starring with Harrison Ford in what is being called the final installment in the Indiana Jones series. Her acting skill are just as great as her writing.
