Pamela Anderson And Her #Metoo Controversy

Hollywood personality Pamela Anderson has opened up about her previous comment during the #Metoo movement. The moment is very well known. It originally surfaced back in 2006 by Tarana Burke, who actually coined the phrase to talk about sexual abuse and harassment and how so many people undergo such struggle on routine bases. This often occurs in a workplace setting. However, it wasn’t until 2017 that the movement actually took up more momentum when actresses like Kate Beckinsale, Salma Hayek, and many others accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment and assault. The movement has helped hundreds of thousands of women open up about sexual misconduct.

Pamela And The Past

The actress popular for the hit TV Show Baywatch opened up about her experiences with sexual harassment and misogyny in Hollywood in an interview. She defended her extremely controversial, and some might even say distasteful comments about the #metoo movement, especially in the context of Hollywood actresses. In an interview with Today, she spoke in a manner that blamed the victims rather than the accused. She said:

“It was common knowledge that certain producers or certain people in Hollywood are people to avoid, privately. You know what you’re getting into if you’re going into a hotel room alone.”

Doubtlessly, the comments did not sit well with many in Hollywood and many victims across the world who had been given a voice by the strong movement. Now, Anderson appeared before interviewer Ronan Farrow for Interview magazine and defended her comments, further adding to her previous statement.

I could even take it a step further,” she said. “My mother would tell me — and I think this is the kind of feminism I grew up with — it takes two to tango. Believe me, I’ve been in many situations where it’s like, ‘Come in here little girl, sit on the bed.’ But my mom would say, ‘If someone answers the door in a hotel robe and you’re going for an interview, don’t go in. But if you do go in, get the job.’”

She seems to understand how horrible it is to place the blame on the victims substantially but claims that that’s just the kind of learning that she grew up with. She further acknowledges that she’s glad that not everyone had to grow up with this sort of understanding.

“That’s a horrible thing to say but that’s how I was. I skated on the edges of destruction. I just had this sense of value and self-worth. But I think a lot of people don’t have that or they weren’t taught that. Thank God for the #MeToo movement because things have changed and people are much more careful and respectful.”

About Her Time With Playboy

Pamela Anderson first blew up when she was featured on the cover of Playboy magazine in 1989. She, in fact, has the record of appearing on the cover of the famous magazine a total of 14 times. She mentioned that while her younger self felt that she was on Playboy because she was special, that may not have been the case. In her own words, she didn’t think that the men were “sexist” at the time.

Pamela’s New Memoir and Documentary

Now, Pamela Anderson’s new memoir Love, Pamela, openly talks about her past and the trauma she had to face growing up. The model and actress also gets candid about her experiences with misogyny and sexual abuse, and assault throughout her personal and professional life. A documentary titled Pamela, a Love Story, is also now streaming on Netflix. This is what Anderson said about her new projects:

“I’m going to watch it one day because I’m very proud that my sons were involved in it, and I want to see their interviews. But it’s too hard for me to see it at this point.”
