A sober Demi Lovato, on Thursday, shared on Instagram an unedited photo of herself wearing shades, a two-piece swim pants and a fierce pose as she looked over her shoulders. The photo proudly showed off her Cellulite.
In the quest for the perfect, smooth body social media users
– Instagram users especially, often edit images before sharing on the platform.
They airbrush, filter or take the photo in a way to hide their imperfections.
Well, Lovato appeared to have bucked that trend with her
latest update. Though, she acknowledged her “biggest fear” is posting an
unedited photo of her body.
In her words, “This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a
bikini unedited. And guess what it’s CELLULITE!!!!” she wrote.
Interestingly, Cellulite is a condition that affects about
90% of women sometime in their lifetime. It usually makes the skin to look
dimpled and lumpy.
The 27-year-old pop singer said she’s tired of “being
ashamed” of her body and opened up that her previous bikini pictures were
edited.
“I’m just literally sooooo tired of being ashamed of my body,
editing it (yes the other bikini pics were edited – and I hate that I did that,
but it’s the truth) so that others think I’m THEIR idea of what beautiful is,
but it’s just not me.”
She said, going forward that she hopes to stay authentic
about who she is rather than trying to meet someone else’s standards.
“I want this new chapter in my life to be about being
authentic to who I am rather than trying to meet someone else’s standards.”
“So here’s me, unashamed, unafraid and proud to own a body
that has fought through so much and will continue to amaze me when I hopefully
give birth one day.”
And, then fans reacts to the image…
The unedited photo appears to have been taken at the same
place as those Demi shared back in May this year while vacationing in Bora
Bora, French Polynesia.
The new images, since Thursday, has gone on to garner 7.1
million likes more than the 4.1 million reactions from the earlier edited
version of the same photos.
Her photo had even prompted fans to openly share images of
their Cellulite too with plenty of others praising her in the comments.
“Look at me like that again… love yasef” wrote Mike Johnson.
Another commenter, Ronda Rousey, wrote, “You look even better
without the editing.”
Lovato said, she hopes to help others view their body
positively. “I hope to inspire someone to appreciate their body today too.”
Celebrity Amy Schumer and Ashley Graham shared Lovato’s post
on their Instagram Stories with the caption: “@demilovato is the truth.” And “I
love Demi” respectively.
“Anyway, here’s me, RAW, REAL! And I love me. And you should
love you too. I’m not stoked on my appearance, BUT I am appreciative of it, and
sometimes that’s the best I can do. I hope to inspire someone to appreciate
their body too,” she concluded.
