Life can be hard sometimes, and it’s easy to feel down. However, the one thing we should never do is give up. If you need motivation ahead of a new week, allow us to help with some celebrities that failed before succeeding!

Steven Spielberg

Currently, Spielberg is one of the biggest names in the movie industry. Yet, success wasn’t always on the cards and he was actually rejected numerous times by the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. With over 30 movies to his name, they have earned box office revenues of over $9 billion.

Fred Astaire

Alongside Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire is a name that most people know these days. Although he went on to take both Broadway and Hollywood by storm, an executive in one of his first screen tests once wrote the following;

‘Can’t sing. Can’t act. Slightly balding. Can dance a little.’

Lady Gaga

In case you didn’t know, Island Def Jam dropped Lady Gaga just three months after signing her. According to Gaga herself, she was in floods of tears and thought everything was over. Wonder what happened to her in the years since?

Vincent van Gogh

In life, we have a habit of not appreciating people or their work until they’re gone…and this is true of Vincent van Gogh. Did you know that he only ever sold ONE painting while alive? Called ‘The Red Vineyard’, it was only a few months before his death, and it sold for 400 Francs in Brussels. Despite financial difficulties, van Gogh would continue to fight for his dream and he’s now an instantly recognizable name in the world of art.

Dr Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel)

The wonderful thing about the Dr Seuss books is that we can enjoy them as children and then all over again as we read them to our own children. With 600 million sales to his name, he’s right up there with the most famous authors of all time. However, the Green Eggs and Ham writer was rejected by 27 publishers for his first book.

These days, Rowling is worth hundreds of millions and the Harry Potter series has fans all over the globe. In the beginning, the real story starts with a single mother on welfare writing in a cafe with her young child. Through many rejections and difficult times, Harry Potter was born, and the rest is history.

Sir James Dyson

While some businesspeople stumble across a great idea straight away, others take 5,127 attempts. That’s right, Sir James Dyson, responsible for the Dyson vacuum, failed with 5,126 prototypes over 15 years and then eventually got it right. According to Forbes, his net worth is now at nearly $5 billion.

Carey Mulligan

Not only was Carey Mulligan rejected from every drama school, she was told to become a children’s TV show presenter. She didn’t give up on her dream and has starred in Hollywood movies and brilliant Broadway shows.

Don’t give up on your dreams; keep working hard and get what you want in life!
