Minefield Walk for Prince Harry as He Follows in Princess Diana’s Footsteps

At Celeb Network, we don’t often pay attention to the royal family on the other side of the Atlantic, but there is one story that has caught our eye early this weekend. Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, has always been a champion of his mother’s work but there has never been a clearer indication than with his visit to a de-mining site in Angola.

Back in 1997, when Harry was much younger and Princess Diana was in her final year, the Princess of Wales visited Angola and walked through an active minefield. Now, 22 years later, Prince Harry has done exactly the same.

De-Mining Walk

According to sources, he was provided with a safety demonstration before being taught about the de-mining teams and what they had achieved since the Angolan civil war. Not only did Harry walk through the minefield but he helped to remotely detonate one they found. All this is part of the fantastic work of the team who are making Angola safe again not only for people but for future eco-tourism and wildlife too.

After leaving Durico, Prince Harry took the same steps as his mother as he visited Huambo. He said, ‘It’s been quite emotional retracing my mother’s steps.’ He also noted how rewarding it was to see how the previously unsafe place has been completely transformed into a full community with colleges, businesses, and happy families.

Diana’s Great Work

Over the years, Princess Diana brought the whole world’s attention to some important causes and landmines were an important one. As she passionately fought to raise awareness of the landmine problem, she would never see the fruits of her efforts, an international treaty signed after her passing. Prince Harry said he was very proud of the achievement and that her mother would still be working hard on the cause today had she been alive.

For The Duke of Sussex, the emotional trip didn’t stop there as he made an appearance at the Princess Diana Orthopaedic Centre which had been renamed just recently. During his time at the facility, he spoke with two workers who had previously had conversations with Princess Diana in 1997.

The Legacy Lives On

Back in August 1997, the whole world came to a standstill as news started to drip through about the crash of Princess Diana. When the death was confirmed, it was more than just the UK who went into mourning. However, the work of her many charitable causes continues and the legacy that she left behind has never been stronger. With her two sons, Princes William and Harry, now working just as hard as she, it’s great to see so many great causes getting the attention they deserve.

During her life, Princess Diana was an activist and it would be interesting to see and hear her take on the events of today. Well done, Prince Harry!
