Meghan Markle Frustrated by Palace’s Approach to Handling False Tabloid Stories

The Duchess of Sussex was allegedly frustrated by how the palace dealt with false stories before she relinquished her official duties as a senior royal.

Ignore Stories or No Comment, Source Claims

According to a report published on Wednesday, court documents linked with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s legal proceedings against a British media company revealed that Meghan Markle felt unable to defend herself.

According to a source close to the once-upon-a-time royal couple, the viewpoint at the palace was to ignore stories or no comment. It was alleged that some people actively prevented the Duchess from responding to stories that were known to be untrue. And that is what Megan Markle has issues with.

According to the documents filed by the legal team of the former American actress, false reports caused enormous emotional damage and distress to her mental health. This situation left the Duchess feeling exposed or unprotected by the royal institution to which she was committed by marriage. It had also prevented her from actively defending herself, especially when she was still pregnant with Archie.

Never Complain, Never Explain

An insider at the palace with in-depth knowledge of the goings-on in the royal household opened up that the latter had a history of silence on any news story. This stems from their utmost determination to not escalate the situation. This is the renowned ‘never complain, never explain’ notion.

The source explained that the palace teams are usually faced with the problematic situation that when things go wrong, any action taken with the media, in most cases, makes it irreversibly worse. This is especially so if the issue has to do with private life matters. It is not as if the royal household does not want to help. They’d rather not make it worse by fueling the story with more information.

Remarks in the Document Not Aimed Specifically at the Royal Family

However, a pal close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stressed that remarks outlined in the document were not explicitly directed at the royal family. The source stated that some individuals are making the document content all about those in the palace. But that is not the case; the remarks are about the royal institution as a whole and its sacred practices.

The Gross Violation of Privacy

The source pointed out that the case was centered on a hand-written and private letter from a daughter to her loving father made public by The Mail last Sunday. This was a gross assault or violation of any individual’s right to privacy, which is unlawful.

Meghan Markle issuing publishers The Mail and Associated Newspaper for publishing glowing excerpts of what the former ‘Suits’ star described as a ‘private and confidential’ letter to Thomas Markle, her father, in August 2018. The incident occurred three months after the much talked about the royal wedding to the 35-year-old Prince Harry.

Markle and her husband listened in on pre-trial hearings in April right from their home in Los Angeles. The legal case focuses on whether or not The Mail infringed on Markle’s privacy last Sunday as well as the United Kingdom’s laws surrounding data and copyright protection by publishing excerpts of the Duchess’s letter.

The legal proceeding is expected to go to a full trial by late 2020 or early 2021.
