Mark Wahlberg and Mario Lopez are part of the list of celebrities who spoke out recently, urging fans to self-isolate or stay home as a means to stop the spread of the dreaded novel coronavirus.

The Hypocrisy

But the “Spenser Confidential” star and “Saved by the Bell” actor were soon accused of hypocrisy after both celebrities individually posted clips showcasing a joint workout at a gym located in Los Angeles, California while thousands of their viewers and fans remained quarantined at home.

Lopez posted a video of himself and Wahlberg on Instagram in which they were inside an F45 training facility. They boasted that anyone in their backyards or apartments could perform the workout without the need for equipment.

Lopez’s Perspective

“Everyone’s cooped up in their homes for the last couple of weeks. I think now more than ever since we do not know when this is going to end, we need to stay active, not just for your physical health but for your mental health,” Lopez said.

“That gazelle right there? My boy, Mark, we are staying 6 feet away. This place we’re at right now, we have completely to ourselves. It is disinfected, sanitized, and we did a heck of a workout F45 style. Homie brought me the batting gloves. We are good to go.”

However, clips posted to the social media pages of the stars showed a female associate or participant joined Wahlberg and Lopez while a man was allegedly in the background, filming them from a cellphone.

Reactions from Fans

Many of their fans reacted to the Instagram video positively and negatively. While a handful of fans praised the stars for providing “great” and “awesome” workout to perform at home, a number of them chewed out the famous duo for breaking protocols by ignoring government mandates.

One user angrily commented: “Teach people from your own homes. Stay at home for real.” Another Instagram user questioned: “Shouldn’t gyms be closed there like dang near everywhere else?”

Another disappointed follower urged: “Stay at home! You’re all over the city.”

Other frustrated fans also accused both Lopez and Wahlberg of using their fame and money to get special treatment as well as avoiding the California Governor’s “Stay in place” order.

One person wrote: “How is it open? It is not essential! How is it fair that you all can go to a gym to workout but us normal folks can’t?”

Another fan chipped in: “Hey narcissist! Why don’t you stay in your mansion and exercise instead of possibly spreading COVID-19! What’s wrong with you?? I guess the Governor wasn’t speaking to you?”

Yet another follower quipped: “Difficult to be rich and famous” while another fed-up fan also added: “So everyone can do it at home, but yet…you do it in the gym where everyone’s not allowed to go…but you?”

Another follower from Australia jumped in: “I’ve never heard of you, but you just made the news in Australia for not staying at home as recommended by public health authorities. You are setting a very bad example for others for what appears like purely self-promotion.

“Maybe turn on the news and see how the virus is ravaging your country and killing the old and vulnerable,” the Australian user added.
