Madonna’s Brother Anthony Ciccone Dies At 66

Madonna is often referred to as the Queen of pop. She is someone who manages to reinvent and redesign music in such innovative ways that it takes everyone aback. She is known for her interesting style in fashion and her unorthodox approach to music. However, as great as she is in her professional career, Madonna came from a tight-knit family and had dynamic relationships with her parents and siblings. The singer-songwriter was named after her mother, and then there was her older brother, who was named after their father. It seems that Anthony, who died recently at 66 years of age, had found himself estranged from the rest of the family.

Revelations From Joe Henry

Joe Henry is the husband of Madonna’s sister, Melanie Ciccone. A brother-in-law to Anthony, Joe broke the news on his Instagram handle, letting everyone know that Anthony had died, saying he had “exited this earthly plane,” the cause of Anthony’s death still remains a mystery to the common folk.

Madonna has had no public reactions and has not spoken to the media about the incident. She did like Joe’s post, so it is evident that the singer-songwriter is aware of her brother’s death. Their relationship was not exactly very public, but we do know that Anthony had estranged himself from the rest of the family because of his alcoholism. He was also reported to be homeless for years and lived under a bridge at a very low point in his life.

“I’m a zero in their eyes – a non-person. I’m an embarrassment,” said Anthony in a brief interview with the Daily Mail in 2011. “If I froze to death, my family probably wouldn’t know or care about it for six months.”

Clearly, the relationship between him and the rest of the family wasn’t very stable. In 2017, it was reported that Anthony had finished his rehab program.

“God knows: we tangled in moments, as true brothers can.” Said Joe Henry, “But I loved him, and understood him better than I was sometimes willing to let on. But trouble fades; and family remains – with hands reached across the table. Farewell, then, brother Anthony.”

The press still awaits a public response from Madonna.
