The Grammys are all set to return on 5th February to honor and recognize the best of music in America. While the various awards given out are a big part of the whole entire process, performances that light up the entire room are also important, and fans across the globe look forward to their favorite stars performing live on stage. A list of performers who will be appearing on stage, along with the list of Grammy nominations, is out now. Among the many stars performing on the night of the 5th are Lizzo, Sam Smith, and so many more.
Artists And Nominations
If there’s one thing in common between these performers apart from their talent, it is that all of them have a certain few nominations to their names in the upcoming 65th Grammy Awards 2023. Lizzo, the famous singer, has been nominated in five categories including Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year (Special), as well as Song Of The Year. While others, such as Mary J. Blige, are also nominated for Album Of The Year and Record Of The Year, which makes her total number of nominations a solid six.
Sam Smith and Petras are up for best pop duo/group performance, with Petras being the first trans nominee. Doubtless to say, a lot of great performances await the Grammys this year. At the last Grammy awards, big names like Bruno Mars, Billie Eilish, as well as BTS performed at the prestigious award ceremony. The host will be, once again, the ever-charming Trevor Noah, famous for The Daily Show and his stand up specials. The lineup this time is bound to bring in lots of views as all the performers announced so far are incredibly popular. More performers will also be revealed within the coming days leading up to the show itself.
Production And Nomination Categories
The production will be handled by Raj Kapoor (not to be confused with late Indian actor), who will function as the executive producer of the Grammys alongside Ben Winston and Jesse Collins. The main interesting attraction may be Phil Heyes, who will be directing the whole award function for the first time. What Phil has to bring to the table remains to be seen.
Record of the year nomination sees many familiar names, such as Adele for her record Easy On Me. There’s also none other than Beyonce nominated for Break My Soul. As mentioned earlier, Mary J. Blige has received a Record of the year nomination for Good Morning Gorgeous, while Doja Cat was nominated for Woman. Harry Styles also bagged a nomination for his hit record As It Was, which must’ve been no surprise for any of his fans or anyone who listens to music or scrolls Instagram.
Other nominations include Lizzo, Kendrick Lamar, and Steve Lacy. Album of the year has similar names with the addition of Coldplay for Music of the Sphere a special album which also featured the famous k-pop band BTS. This category also includes Bad Bunny for Un Verano Sin Ti.
In Ultimatum
As usual, the Grammys are a major event for all of music, however, it once again seems that a lot of the music being recognized comes from the popular choices of fans and interactions on social media. While all the contenders are well deserving, some argue that old names and popular performances are being given more importance as compared to up-and-coming artists who don’t have similar online success but music that’s amazing to listen to. With time, the Grammys may evolve and expand to include a wider genre of categories to recognize more musicians and elevate them to a greater platform.
