Lance Reddick, an outstanding actor who contributed to many brilliant films over a career of decades. Fans may recognize Reddick from one of his recent shows or films like The Wire and perhaps the most prominent one, John Wick. Reddick played the gentlemanly and graceful receptionist at the Continental, a hotel and safe stay for the assassins in Wick’s world.
The actor has now found a resting place at the age of 60. The actor was found passed away due to ‘natural causes’ in his home, as confirmed by his publicist. Actors and creators across Hollywood have expressed their grief after learning of Reddick’s passing.
Hollywood Mourns
Reddick was last featured in the latest installment of the John Wick franchise, John Wick: Chapter 4. Actors Keanu Reeves and veteran Ian McShane expressed their grief after the actor passed away.
“Total shock and disbelief. Lance was a wonderful human being and a wonderful colleague. My deepest condolences, peace and love to his wife, Stephanie, and all his family.” This was a statement released by McShane, the actor who plays the owner of the Continental hotel in the films and has worked closely with Reddick for several years now.
Reddick has also given his voice to many characters showing his immense range as a voice actor. He has acted in animated features such as Castlevania, Rick and Morty, Duck Tales, and The Vindicators. The actor worked closely with Chad Stahelski as he played Charon in the John Wick films. Here’s a statement that was released by Reeves and Stahelski together:
“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick. He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with. Our love and prayers are with his wife Stephanie, his children, family and friends. We dedicate the film to his loving memory. We will miss him dearly.”
Fans can prepare to get teary-eyed as this might be the last John Wick film that the creators would make, which also happens to be the last film Reddick would be in. The actor has also worked on Netflix’s Resident Evil series and on the famous horror franchise American Horror Story. However, it was his extensive work on The Wire that catapulted him into the world of Hollywood, where he found many roles and many amazing co-stars.
“A consummate professional, a devoted collaborator, a lovely soul and a friend. This is just gutting and way, way, way too soon for any of us who knew and loved him to contemplate,” said The Wire creator David Simon in his statement. He was also joined by Wendell Pierce, who was Reddick’s co-star on the famous crime drama show. Pierce took to Twitter to express his emotions over the loss of his loved co-star.
“a man of great strength and grace. As talented a musician as he was an actor. The epitome of class. An sudden unexpected sharp painful grief for our artistic family. An unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. Godspeed my friend. You made your mark here. RIP.”
Reddick has starred in two HBO shows that include The Wire and Oz. Naturally, the studio had to pay tribute to the actor’s sudden demise. Reddick worked on Oz as Johnny Basil, along with actor Kirk Acevedo who tweeted, “You’ll be terribly missed.” The two also starred together in the sci-fi series Fringe.
“He worked with my mom Anne Meara in her play Afterplay, playing Raziel, the waiter slash angel of death. He was exquisite in that and all he did. Nothing is lost,” said Ben Stiller, referring to one of Reddick’s plays. The actor was fluent in multiple forms of entertainment and could act in any given role with any given medium. Truly, a gem was lost too soon.
