Kathryn Newton has been the talk of the town ever since she was cast as Cassie Lang, Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) daughter in the famous Marvel film franchise Antman. Now, Antman and The Wasp: Quantamania is right around the corner, waiting for its worldwide release. Newton has previously worked in films like The Map of Tiny Perfect Things, Little Women, and Freaky. She is now the brand new star of the new Marvel film and has fantastic chemistry with her co-star and fictional dad, Paul Rudd. The duo has been doing the round promoting the film, and Kathryn just celebrated her birthday recently on the 8th of February.

Kathryn and Her Films

Recently the actress sat down with The Hollywood Reporter for an interview and talked about a lot of things. She was recently spotted playing gold with none other than Bill Murray, and now she stars in a film with Murray in it. Is it all a coincidence? Probably not. Here’s how her casting became a reality from a lifelong dream:

The truth is I played in the tournament [Pebble Beach Pro-Am], and I wanted everyone to think I was cool, so I told them about the next project I was doing. I was also playing with Jordan Spieth, who I’m a big fan of, and I was like, “I’m in Ant-Man, and it’s going to be sick.” And Bill was like, “Huh, Marvel.” And then I got a phone call a month later. My mom was like, “I have Bill Murray for you.” And I was like, “What!?” And Bill was like, “I’ve been thinking about joining the MCU for a while.” And I was like, “Okay.” And he was like, “I just wanted to ask your permission to join the movie.” And I was like, “Yeah, Bill. That’s fine, but maybe you should talk to somebody else and see if there’s a role for you. I have no idea.” But I think he already had an offer and just wanted to make a joke out of it.

It must’ve been written in her fate to be playing Cassie Lang someday. Regardless, she mentions and acknowledges the previous actress who played a very young Cassie Lang in the previous Antman films–Abby Ryder Fortson:

“Abby was so cute and joyful and just magical in both movies. So we thought about her a lot, especially in creating what she looks like now,” Newton said. “So I had a seamless transition, and … she still has that same spark of energy, that joy, that love, and a big, big heart.”

She also starred in the slasher film Freaky. The film is linked to another one of Christopher Landon’s films, Happy Death Day, the creator has talked about how the two films share the exact same universe. Ever since the fans found out, they’ve been demanding a crossover of the two horror-thriller franchises. While the idea of a crossover seems more or less inevitable, it was still rejected by Jason Blum of Blumhouse, one of the key producers of the films.

However, Newton is very much in the favor of such a film and said:

“I say never say never. I think the possibilities are limitless. If you have a script and people like it, then it could happen. So let’s just talk to Chris Landon about that.”

While the idea is surely a good one, only Landon can be the final judge in the whole process. Maybe someone comes up with a solid enough script to incorporate the two stories into one epic film.
