Die-hard fans of Pedro Pascal and those of Star Wars are all set to come back together as the third season of The Mandalorian goes live. This time, the fans will see Din Djarin and Grogu explore Djarin’s original planet Mandalore.
The planet has never been seen in live action before on the screen, but it has made its appearances in comics and related animated versions. A wild world where people live by the code of fighting. The characters are headed there to take back control of the planet, but will they ever win?
Creator of the show Jon Favreau who fans might recognize as Happy from the Iron Man films talked about how Boba Fett crossover helped him push the story of the Mandalorian forward.
Favreau and Fett
In The Book of Boba Fett, we saw Din and Grogu make a surprise appearance. The crossover was amazing and propelled the stories of the two characters forward. Grogu was presented with a choice, either become a Jedi with some training or go back to living his life of adventure with Din.
Obviously, he chose to go back to Din, and this decision gave a lot of creative freedom to Favreau, who is very thrilled with building this cinematic universe that remains interconnected. He said the decision was a result of “the freedom of storytelling,” something the Mandalorian verse promotes. Favreau told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview:
“We have characters that exist in both sets of stories, so we can use the opportunity of The Book of Boba Fett to check in on where these characters are,” he said. “I knew that I didn’t want to dedicate a lot of screen time within The Mandalorian to a period of time where there wasn’t a lot of character progression. Both [Din and Grogu] were kind of stuck, as far as character progression goes, until they were reunited. So, my feeling was that it would allow me to do both of those things and freed me up now two years later to have a whole new context for these two characters to have a relationship and move forward.”
Thanks to the decision, Din and Grogu’s character arcs were facilitated, and they could move forward. Now, after two years since we last saw the characters, The Mandalorian is all set to return with a new plot point that just keeps getting more and more interesting.
Creator And Cast
In the interview, Favreau also talked about why they chose Pascal as the lead character. The actor has been a heartthrob in recent times. He is currently most praised for his portrayal of Joel in The Last of Us, a show about infected zombies who are a terrifying nightmare for the humans who survive. The show is still airing and was adapted from a game of the very same name. Here’s what Favreau had to say about Pascal:
“We just hired him because we were fans of his work [in] Narcos and Game of Thrones,” Favreau said. “He’s been at it for a while, and what we really liked about him was that he was a journeyman actor who always did a great part. He really picked great projects to be a part of, he always stood out. We knew that he could ground and add humanity to a character that was otherwise a mask, somebody that we knew you wouldn’t see his face, and if and when you did that, it had to mean something. He had to deliver a lot in a few moments.
Clearly, Pascal was the best choice to play the man in the mask. The Mandalorian season 3 is live now on Disney+.
