It’s that time of year again; some of the world’s largest music stars come together in Las Vegas for the iHeartRadio Music Festival. Currently taking place in the T-Mobile Arena, the event is expected to welcome thousands of music fans as well as millions listening or watching along at home. Ever since the launch in 2011, the event has only grown, and this year will see another bumper lineup.
Day
One – Green Day Take the Headlines
In a moment we’ve been waiting for since the lineups were revealed earlier this year, many huge names took to the stage including Camila Cabello, Heart, Hootie & the Blowfish, Steve Aoki, Tim McGraw, Backstreet Boys, French Montana, and Cage the Elephant. With this fantastic blend of old and new, the first night was a success and it looks good for day two too. However, it was Green Day who stole the headlines.
Remember in
2004 when the band released a song to attack the presidency of George W Bush?
Well, they brought this classic back last night…with some updated lyrics. For
fans of the band, this looks as though it will be a theme in upcoming music and
Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer of the band, even admitted to Kerrang! that the 2020 album will have
‘political themes’.
This being
said, Armstrong was quick to note that the album was in no way inspired by
President Trump. In the interview, he said that ‘I draw no inspiration from the
President of the United States, because he’s just…there’s nothing.’ He went
even further by saying that ‘Trump gives me diarrhea, you know? I don’t want to
write a song about it.’
Back to the festival,
they lit up the stage and brought out some of their classic hits including;
Holiday
Basket
Case
Boulevard
of Broken Dreams
They also sang
‘Father of All…’ and the performance coincided with the single’s release on
YouTube. At this point, it has already climbed into the Billboard Hot Rock
Songs Chart Top 10.
Day
Two – Who Will Steal the Show?
After a successful first day, we have yet another fantastic evening to look forward to on Saturday. Taking to the stage, we will see Def Leppard, Alicia Keys, Chance the Rapper, H.E.R., Marshmello, Mumford & Sons, Miley Cyrus, and plenty of other superstars. Of course, we have more music on Saturday thanks to the Daytime Stage.
This is an
exciting time for all music fans and rumors are already swirling as to who will
appear at December’s Jingle Ball. Just this week, the excitement surrounded BTS. After a long summer break, the boys
from South Korea have been bombarded with requests to perform at the show.
Will it happen?
Well, reliable Korean source Ilgan Sports believes the band are preparing for a
set at the show because it will allow fans who haven’t yet seen them to
experience their music on a grander scale. We’re sure we’ll bring you news on
this in the coming weeks!
