Another week, another celebrity choosing to step away from social media and the spotlight. This time, while families across the country were enjoying their Memorial Day celebrations, it was Iggy Azalea as the subject of a topless photo leak.
As the nude photos were disseminated around the internet, the singer and rapper decided to deactivate not only her Instagram but Twitter account too. According to reports, the sensitive pictures were taken during a GQ photoshoot around three years ago. However, they found themselves into the wrong hands and have now been posted all over the internet.
Public Statement from Azalea
According to Iggy, the pictures came from a ‘2016 GQ magazine cover’ shoot. She went on to say that ‘a lot of high-profile women have shot covers for GQ with a strategically placed hand covering their breasts. I always felt they were very beautiful covers, so I jumped at the opportunity.’
After not seeing leaks from these other celebrities, she went ahead with the shoot and felt comfortable on the closed set. She notes how ‘I never consented to taking topless pictures for potential release, period. It was my understanding BEFORE shooting, GQ do not print topless pictures.’
With this in mind, she was ‘surprised and angry’ to find out not only that these photographs had been kept but they had been released too. As well as the initial release, Azalea said she was disappointed by the reaction and comments the pictures had received. For example, she said there were men commenting about fantasies with regards to her body.
Of course, this is the latest in what has become a worrying trend of celebrities having their personal photos or other topless and nude images leaked. For Iggy Azalea, it isn’t acceptable, and she plans on pressing charges once she finds out who was responsible. She believes that ‘somebody actually be held accountable for their actions and the way it impacts my life’.
No More Social Media for Iggy
As a result of the leak, Azalea has deactivated her social media accounts and says she will keep them deactivated for the time being. Meanwhile, the attention turned to Nino Munoz, the photographer on the shoot in question.
On Instagram, he informed his followers that he was ‘outraged and saddened’ that the images were stolen. He says they were published without his permission and that he is happy to help with the ongoing investigation. Finally, he said his heart ‘goes out to anyone this situation has affected’.
Worrying Trend
As mentioned, this is now a worrying trend and the reaction on social media is often just as bad as the initial leak itself. Azalea noted how she has ‘seen some really vicious s**t written in the last 24 hours’ and how it was ‘too much negativity’ to handle.
What’s the solution? Well, the investigation will continue, and we’ll keep you updated when anything noteworthy happens. Otherwise, we’ll finish with a message in Azalea’s own words;
