It is not news that Idris Elba has made headlines for a long time as the next line to act as James Bond. However, he has publicly made it known that he dislikes the wave of speculation. While being interviewed by Vanity Fair, he openly made confirmation that he will not be the next James Bond actor. Elba made it known that he never really likes to discuss rumors concerning casting in relation to James Bond.

Elba told Vanity Fair, “James Bond is a hugely coveted, iconic, beloved character, that takes audiences on this massive escapism journey,” He continued, “Of course, if someone said to me, ‘Do you want to play James Bond?,’ I’d be like, ‘Yeah! That’s fascinating to me.’ But it’s not something I’ve expressed, like, ‘Yeah, I wanna be the black James Bond.”‘

The celebrity actor went on to discuss and explain the role that race has played in becoming quite a problem for certain persons who are concerned about him playing the role of the English spy. He went on to say: “You just get disheartened when you get people from a generational point of view going, ‘It can’t be.’ And it really turns out to be the color of my skin. And then if I get it and it didn’t work, or it did work, would it be because of the color of my skin? That’s a difficult position to put myself into when I don’t need to.”

The interest of Idris Elba in potentially playing the role of James Bond has been teased once before. In March, he went on to tell Daily Mail about his reservations towards playing the role of the popular English spy: “Bond is one of the biggest franchises in the world, and for that reason, whoever ends up playing it, lives it,” Elba spoke. “You’re that character, and known as that character for many, many years.”

The obviously talented actor went on to reveal the form of acting that appeals to him as he said: “I’m creating characters now that can still live alongside Idris, not ones that take over me and solely define me.”

Bond 25 will be the last James Bond movie where Daniel Craig will star. He is currently 51 years of age and he succeeded Pierce Brosnan. Bond 25 culminates in a total of 5 James Bond movies that he has acted.
