Hollywood is rife with feuds, and one of the most popular ones just got exposed to movie lovers and fans. Hugh Jackman, star of the famous “X-Men” movies, has revealed the person or origin behind his feud with fellow actor Ryan Reynolds. And it is no other person than the Marvel Universe star and ex-wife of the “6 Underground” star, Scarlett Johansson.
The Lighthearted Feud
Reynolds and Jackman have engaged in a lighthearted feud on social media for several years now. Most of the conflict has to do with Reynolds doing his best to convince Jackman to join him in a forthcoming “Deadpool” movie project.
It is no longer news that Wolverine and Deadpool often encounter each other in the Marvel comic books. But the Wolverine star made it very clear that he has officially retired from playing the clawed superhero following “Logan,” a 2017 film.
The Origin of the Feud
Hugh Jackman was asked in a recent interview about the genesis of the feud. Initially, the Wolverine star made a strenuous effort to recall the origins of their jabs.
“How did it start? It’s gone back so long now…God, this is a classic sign where your feud has gone too long, where you don’t even know why or how it all started,” said the 51-year-old star with a laugh.
But after a while, “The Front Runner” star remembered that the feud began when he and the 43-year-old Reynolds met on the set of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” At the time, Reynolds had just gotten married to Scarlett Johansson, Jackman’s friend.
I Was Close Friends with Johansson, Hugh Jackman says
“I met him back on ‘Wolverine’, and I used to ream him because I was very close friends with Scarlett. And Scarlett had just married Ryan, so when he came on set I was like ‘Hey, you better be on your best behavior here, pal, because I’m watching,’” Jackman revealed.
“And we started ribbing each other that way, and then it all escalated with the ‘Deadpool’ thing and him calling me out and trying to manipulate me through social media to do what he wanted.”
These days, the A-list actors take swipes at each other from time to time, with Reynolds jokingly telling Deborra-Lee Furness, Jackman’s longtime wife: “Hang in there” when the couple celebrated their 24th anniversary on Instagram.
Reynolds and Johansson got married in 2008 but went their separate ways in 2011, and he went on to marry Blake Lively, his current wife, in 2012.
Jackman Plotting His Revenge
Jackman stated that he is currently plotting retaliation; however, he jokingly said that he limits his revenge plan to just five hours a day.
“I try to limit it to five hours a day, planning retribution,” the “Real Steel” star joked. “I’ve found in the past that it just gets unhealthy if it’s more than five hours of obsessing over how to get Ryan Reynolds. But five hours is good and healthy and keeps me strong and ready.”
