Halle Berry has opened up on one of the challenges she’s facing amid the novel coronavirus quarantine: homeschooling her kids, Nahla, 12, and Maceo, 6.

It is a Nightmare for Me, Berry Says

Berry confessed: “It’s a nightmare for me. It’s a nightmare.” The 53-year-old actress continued, “This is like a wash of a semester; they are really just not learning anything, and it’s hard.

“I have a 6-year-old, and what I learned is that when 6-year-olds see other 6-year-olds do things, then they do things. Like, they sit, and they eat because 25 other ones are doing it. They stay at their desks and color because 25 other ones are doing it.”

Things a Little Different, Says Berry

When their classmates do not surround kids, things are a little different, the Oscar-winning actress said.

“At home, there are not 25 other ones doing school work. So, to get them to focus and realize they are at home, but yet they are at school, it’s really been a challenge,” Berry explained.

A Bright Side

There has been a bright side to staying at home, according to the former Bond girl.

“But I have enjoyed having all this extra time with them. We have been making good use of the time when they are not in school,” Berry said.

“When I’m not cracking the whip for school, we do have a lot of family time, storytime, and bonding time that we don’t often get to have, so there is the silver lining.”

The Video She Shared on Social Media

Berry shared a video about a month ago on Instagram of her 6-year-old kid, Maceo-Robert, wearing a pair of Mummy’s high-heeled boots and tramping all over the house. That video, which was captioned ‘#Quarantine Day 12’, is just one of the plenty of laughs in the actress’s household, especially the part when he struggled to climb the stairs.

It is believed that Berry allowed her boy to put on one of her nice pairs of white high-heeled boots to stave off boredom as the entire family continues to practice social distancing amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

She was behind the camera that recorded the 6-year-old as he struggled to climb the staircase in their home.

“That’s what you gotta do in these times. You gotta find the fun, and he’s a class clown,” the ‘John Wick 3: Parabellum’ actress said. “I might have to post some of the other stuff he does.”

The Backlash

Although the video was meant to be taken lightheartedly, some of her fans appeared not to see the funny side of it. They trooped en masse to the comments section to severely criticize the ‘Monster’s Ball’ actress for letting her son wear heels.

But the 53-year-old star responded right in the comments section as well, effectively defending her parenting actions: “Harmless fun. Tryna survive right now. You feel me?”

The discussion among most of the fans on the video post was mostly positive, even though she felt the need to respond to several negative comments.

And of course, she was happy that her son had no broken bones after the hilarious episode.
