Good Deed by Celebrities that Went Under the Radar

Published

on

As pictures went around the internet this week of Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal visiting a children’s hospital in London (while dressed in their Spider-Man characters), our hearts were warmed. In a world full of stress, pressure, and bad news, we’ve decided to compile a list of good deeds that may have gone unnoticed in recent years!

Johnny Depp – Children’s Hospitals

Type these four words into Google and you’ll be inundated with stories of Johnny Depp dressing up as Captain Jack Sparrow and cheering up sick children. In London, in Vancouver, in Brisbane, it seems he always carries the outfit ready to brighten a child’s day and we can’t get enough of it.

In particular, he seems to hold Great Ormond Street in London in his heart. Back in 2007, his daughter Lily-Rose was admitted to the children’s hospital after suffering with kidney failure. Since, Depp has been back dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow several times. What’s more, in 2008, he donated over $2 million to show his gratitude for saving the life of little Lily-Rose.

J.K. Rowling – Donating Large Amounts

These days, the people who don’t recognize the name J.K. Rowling must be few and far between. As the author of the book series that broke all the records, Harry Potter, let’s just say she’s comfortable in terms of finances. Instead of keeping it all to herself, though, she donated nearly $17 million to various causes in 2017.

Thanks to her charitable trust named Volant, a number of different causes benefitted from her kindness (and still do today!).

Jameela Jamil – I Weigh

Leaving the UK to find a role on hit comedy series The Good Place, Jameela Jamil was shocked when she saw an Instagram post which highlighted the weights of each Kardashian family member. As a result, the ‘I Weigh’ campaign was launched. Rather than worrying about things like weight, Jameela encouraged women to talk about their achievements and things in life they love.

To this day, she fights for gender equality and refuses to allow her photographs to be retouched.

Jami Gertz and Antony Ressler – Most Generous Celebs

How could we make a list about generous celebrities without including this POWER couple? Across many years, the pair have been listed as the ‘most generous’ and they donated over $10.5 million in 2012 alone. Thanks to the Ressler Gertz foundation, the LA County Museum of Art received $1.7 million that year and the Cedar Sinai Medical Centre welcomed $400,000.

Other Giving Celebrities

Here are some more names in case you want to read more and spread the positivity. Although these celebrities have amounts of money the average citizen could only dream of seeing (let alone owning), they don’t have to do good things. Therefore, we tip our caps and say a huge thank you and well done to you all!
