The Emmy Awards nominations have come and gone. While we can’t complain about the nominees – they are surely worthy of getting the nod; we can’t help but scratch our heads in wonder at the big names that were omitted from the list.
There are no surprises with the nominations “Game of Thrones” got; after all the series is the greatest TV show of the decade. “When They See Us” also made a great showing – no surprises here too.
But, the omission of A-list actors like George Clooney and Julia Roberts are hair banger; still can’t wrap my head around why they are not on the list. Well, that’s Emmy for you.
So, let’s take a look at this year’s biggest Emmy awards surprises and snubs.
“The Big Bang Theory” ignored
Ok, not entirely true – at least the series scored some nominations in the technical categories, three actually.
However, the fan-favorite comedy show failed to land any nod from the Emmy judges in any major nominations for its final season.
And, surprisingly, its star actor Jim Parsons was not nominated in any of the personal categories.
No nomination for Susan Kelechi Watson “This Is Us”
I don’t know whether what made this snub particularly painful is the fact that Susan Kelechi Watson’s co-stars Sterling K. Brown, Milo Ventimiglia, and Mandy Moore all got the nod.
Fans of This Is Us will find her exclusion in this year’s Emmy nomination a bit weird considering that most people thought she was the best part of the show this year.
Julia Roberts “Homecoming”
Julia Roberts is an A-list actress with decades of Hollywood experience. Though she had won the awards years back, many expected her to return to the small screen in the Homecoming Netflix series to land her a place in the nomination list.
Her exclusions clearly highlighted the poor run for the movie “Homecoming” in this year’s Emmy’s nominee list. Bobby Cannavale and Stephan James all failed to get a nod from the Judges.
D’Arcy Carden “The Good Place”
When she was seen as the host for the Emmy nominations, people thought her nomination is a done deal; but alas, it wasn’t to be.
D’Arcy Carden snub is a rude shock considering this season saw the actress play every single one of her co-star personalities.
Although, if you take a closer look at the comedy category, its jammed packed with incredibly talented acts – that’s not taking anything away from Carden – which probably will make her exclusion forgivable.
Andrew Scott “Fleabag”
Wait, the Hot Priest was snubbed – yeah you read that right, Andrew Scott– ermm, the Hot Priest in Fleabag was snubbed.
Though the comedy series had a good showing with all the female cast getting nominated; plus, other major category nominations that include a nomination in the Outstanding Comedy, writing and directing categories respectively.Overall, the beloved comedy series swept through its categories; however, the omission of Hot Priest is a snub too hard to take.
