In news that we
all feared, yet still respect, Ed Sheeran has revealed that he will be taking
some time away from music. At a concert in Ipswich, England, he said that ‘this
is my last gig for probably 18 months’. Before going on stage, Ed was told that
he had performed in front of a whopping nine million people on his worldwide
tour of Divide which has spanned over two years. In total, this means
revenues of $775 million in ticket sales alone.
Now, he wants to take a step back and focus on his relationship with Cherry Seaburn. Earlier in the year, while promoting the collaborations album, Ed announced that the pair were married, which ended weeks of speculation. In a recent interview on iHeartRadio, he noted his happiness that Seaburn had ‘chosen me’.
Since March
2017, Ed has performed 280 shows with his third successful album. With three
record-breaking albums in under a decade, it’s perhaps not a surprise he needs
a break.
A
Successful Ride
Since bursting
onto the British music scene back in 2011, Ed Sheeran has been one busy man.
Headlining some of the world’s largest music festivals, filling stadiums, and
breaking all sorts of records with his albums, he has guaranteed himself a spot
in the hearts of millions…and all at the age of 28.
Although he
took a small break between Multiply and Divide, it has been a
hectic eight years for the Englishman as he has released and toured three
different albums (not to mention collaboration albums and writing for
other artists).
Just in case you were in any doubt of the man’s talent, he has written or
co-written the following;
Love
Yourself – Justin Bieber
Little
Things – One Direction
Say
You Love Me – Jessie Ware
Cold
Water – Major Lazer
Dark
Times – The Weeknd
Everything
Has Changed – Taylor Swift
Lay
It All On Me – Rudimental
Record
Label and Charity Work
As well as his
own music career, Sheeran has been a staunch advocate of other musical talents.
Back in 2015, he unveiled Gingerbread Man Records, a brand-new record label in
conjunction with the Warner Music Group. With Jamie Lawson as the first artist
signed to the label, whose first album went to number one in the UK, Foy Vance
later joined too.
Away from album
work, Ed has also played various gigs for charitable causes. In Suffolk, his
home county, he is even known to give away clothes to charity shops. Over the
years, he has been involved in plenty of projects for charity and has therefore
been able to use his platform and social standing for good; this charity work
has even earned him an MBE at home.
Ed’s
Return
Will Ed Sheeran
really stay away from a guitar for 18 months? Just today, he’s in the news for
meeting a young girl with an inoperable brain tumor backstage at one of his
many gigs. As the positive stories continue to roll in, we’ll follow intently whether
we’re bringing you news of his return later down the line…or even rumors of a
family!
