Disney Considers Replanning Future Releases

Published

on

Disney has been releasing hit after hit in recent years. Of course, there were shows and movies that were received rather poorly (looking at you, Thor: Love and Thunder), and the majority of releases saw decent enough response from the audience.

Of course, Marvel has a massive and loyal fanbase thanks to the legacy of characters and actors such as Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America. Disney is known for its massive bulk releases and elaborately planned out releases that go with a certain timeline and master plan that sets a whole saga in motion. We saw similar themes with what is now called the Infinity Saga— all the films that led up to Avengers: Endgame

So, why is Disney rethinking its approach of releasing a lot of films and shows in a single year?

Bob Iger Comments On New Approach

Disney CEO Iger opened up about how the company is now looking to produce and treat its new projects. He mentioned how they need to be “better at curatingquality franchises and projects which also happen to be “extraordinarily expensive.”

“We want the quality on the screen, but we have to look at what they cost us.”

One needs to remember that Disney is not just Marvel. Many production houses come under the large umbrella of the multi-billion dollar company. This also includes the ever-popular Lucasfilms studio. However, the Star Wars franchise is likely to meet a very different fate. Since the films have not seen the light of day in a long time, Disney is looking to power up its efforts to establish a Star Wars project to show up in the cinema. Even the director of the last two Thor movies, Taika Waititi, is all set to develop his own version of stories from the Star Wars universe.

Fans can expect big announcements during the April Star Wars Celebration in London. Moreover, Pedro Pascal stars in The Mandalorian as the famous masked outlaw. The show’s new season is also all set to be released very soon. Shows like Ashoka, starring Rosario Dawson, are also expected to drop on the streaming service. And even though the projects are all being produced extensively, they must still keep in mind the budgets set for each one of them.

One agency partner with links to Disney and the franchises had this to say about the new approach the company is taking for its production:

You can have 10 mediocre shows or you can have five great shows.” And well, he couldn’t be more right.
