Marvel fans are in for a blast as the famous studio revives the fallen show, Daredevil. The original series was canceled by Netflix in a series of cancellations that took down all of the Marvel shows, including The Defenders, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and Luke Cage. The fateful end of the series wasn’t meant to be, and so Marvel is now bringing the characters back to life in the new show Daredevil: Born Again. The show is meant to start filming soon and is expected to drop in the spring of 2024. Now, the show has found the perfect director for the opening episodes.

Michael Cuesta

Cuesta is what you could call a Pilot Expert. The director has had a long history of crafting the perfect opening episode for any kind of show. He has previously worked out the pilots of brilliant TV shows such as Dexter, Elementary, and Homeland. He has received an Emmy nomination for his work on Homeland. Cuesta is confirmed to only have the opening episode all to himself, with Marvel likely hiring other directors to work on the rest of the series.

The show is meant to be an epic 18-episode journey. Many characters from the older series will come back, with actors like Jon Bernthal and Vincent D’Onofrio reprising their roles as The Punisher and Kingpin. Charlie Cox is, of course, back as Daredevil. The actor has already made some cameos in character in Spider-Man: No Way Home as well as She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.

Daredevil remains an important part of the Marvel TV show economy. In fact, many consider the original series the best Marvel TV show out there. This is partly because of the brilliant characters portrayed by the actors. This is why fans might be disappointed to find out that  Deborah Ann Woll, along with Elden Henson, will not be seen in their original roles as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson.

Both the characters were instrumental to Daredevil’s growth as well as the show’s popularity in the real world. The actors all had great chemistry, which was lovely to see on the screen. Now, there are rumors that the two will be entirely recast, and fans are not happy about it for obvious reasons. The show being brought back is a huge relief, but it looks like not everything can be brought back for the fans.

Born Again

Matt Corman and Chris Ord are the writers and producers of the show. The new iteration of Daredevil is heavily inspired by the 1986 comic by Frank Miller and  David Mazzuchelli. Marvel is very well known for moving away from the original plotlines, so fans can expect the show not to be anything like the comics, especially because the comic does not have much to do with The Punisher, who is a big part of the upcoming show.

However, the focus will still be on the feud between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. The last time we saw the two, Daredevil had defeated Fisk in combat and thrown him back into jail. The next thing we know, the villain is out and free in Marvel’s Hawkeye series. As of now, no statements have been made about the timeline. While both the characters have appeared in other shows, it is not certain if they’ve already fought or not.

It will be interesting to witness the new dynamics and how they work out.  The newer version of Kingpin seems less brutal and personal, as seen in Hawkeye. Will this change the way the two interact? Looks like fans will find out in 2024.
