Recently, DC Studios were in the headlines for the dramatic changes being made in the DC film world by new heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. Lots of things are being revamped and changed. One of the latest heart-breaking reveals was that Henry Cavill would, after all, not appear in the upcoming DC films as Superman. Gunn was on the receiving end of a lot of backlash from the fans due to these reasons but has persistently maintained that he’s trying to execute his vision. Now, we know what his vision looks like as Gunn and Safran reveal what the future of DC films looks like, and it is exciting, to say the least.
Gods And Monsters
The first chapter in the new DC universe is named Gods and Monsters. It will focus on several different characters and storylines that may ultimately collide at some point in the future. Gunn assured fans of a Multiverse with flexibility. However, since Gunn is establishing a new world, that means Snyder’s vision of DC stories is out. This means we won’t get to see Henry Cavill as Superman again, and Ben Affleck is out as Batman. It was also confirmed that Dwayne Johnson wouldn’t be returning as Black Adam. There is also no word on Aquaman and Wonder Woman actors Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot’s future in the DCU. So what does this mean?
This means we will be seeing a whole new universe with characters we’ve likely never seen before. Gunn wants to expand the storylines in a way that captures characters that are not well-established in filmmaking history for DC. A great new example is Peacemaker. A character no one knew about before Gunn stepped in, and now he has a brilliant show of his own. Here’s what Gunn had to say:
“One of our strategies is to take our diamond characters — which is Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman — and we use them to prop up other characters that people don’t know,”
Planned Films:
Planned films so far include a Batman film which would focus on Bruce Wayne’s family and a Superman movie which is slated for the year 2025. The list also includes a film that centers around Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s home. Finally, also an animated series called Creature Commandos has already entered its production stage. They also mentioned that the other branches of DC that are disconnected from the main universe would remain untouched. This means we will still get to see the future of Matt Reeves’ The Batman films as well as Todd Philip’s “Joker” films. Doubtless, to say, the future of DC is vibrant and bold.
In Conclusion
Gunn and Safran clearly have a lot planned out for the new version of DCU. While many compare the studio to its competitor, Marvel, there are a lot more who recognize that DC has its own style and its own substance. One of those people is James Gunn. This is the reason he is looking to expose the more nuanced side of DC in a way that all the stories work around one major central plot and theme that finally results in an overall blended story. Every fan looks forward to the day the new DC takes over.
