Colombian Runner Loses Juicy Sponsorship Deal with American Company After Kicking Dog During A Race

A Colombian runner got more than he bargained for when a video footage emerged of him kicking a dog brutally out of his way during a race.

The runner, Jamie Alejandro, was one of the contestants participating in an annual Saint Silvester Road Race in the beautiful town of Neira in Caldas, Colombia. The unfortunate incident took place on New Year’s Eve i.e. December 31, 2019.

A video footage, source unknown, emerged which shows the shocking moment Alejandro and several other runners were running up a street. The yet-to-be assaulted brown dog was innocently running to their left, obviously catching it’s fun with his human counterparts.

But as the group of marathoners approached a corner in the street, it appears the dog tried to cross the road right in front of the contestants.

The footage shows Alejandro spitefully giving the brown dog a hard kick. The kick was so hard that the furry animal was sent flying across the street and out of his – and the other runners’ – way.

The band of runners did not break their running strides but continued on their way as if nothing had happened. The dog also continued on its way jogging after it regains balance. There was no visible sign indicating whether or not the dog was severely injured in the unfortunate incident.

Alejandro, later on after the race, posted a video on a social media platform in which he apologized for his thoughtless action. “I did not consider my actions,” he says. “I have no excuses and I do not justify what I did.”

He continued after uploading a picture of himself holding a beautiful dog on his official Instagram page, “I hope I can repay for this somehow, maybe helping homeless dogs in the streets. I will not be posting this on social media, but at least, I will know what I did.”

“I am not justifying my actions, but it was a moment of euphoria in the race,” Alejandro says. “I was not thinking, and I know I can be a brute when I am competing.”

But then, it appears that his apologies, honest or not, did not sit well with his sponsors, the renowned American sportswear company, Under Armour. The company released a statement yesterday in which they distanced themselves from the runner and the incident. They also stated that they are ending their endorsement deal with Alejandro, effective immediately.

The statement as released by the sportswear company reads this: “Under Armour has ended it’s relation with Jamie Alejandro after the video came to light in recent days.

“As a company, we do not tolerate any violence that may harm or put animals in danger.”

Alejandro has not made any statement since Under Armour informed the public about the termination of their contract with the runner.

The Saint Silvester Road Race is a highly popular event that is organized annually and takes place every December 31st.
