Cats and Star Wars Premiere: Ending the Year with a Bang

If you’re looking forward to a trip to the cinema with friends and family members over the holidays, you’re in luck. As school and work draw to a close for 2019, we have two huge movies that will be battling for top spot in the box office charts. With both Cats and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker both coming to us on Friday, they enjoyed their premieres last night and fans of both are already getting excited.

Star Wars 9 on the Way

For other movie franchises, it would be a struggle to reach nine films. For Star Wars, the gap between the first and ninth film is 42 years. With this, there are three generations of fans eagerly anticipating the ending to the trilogy. Of course, the first ever Star Wars film eventually became the fourth episode after the second trilogy actually became a prequel. Make sense? It will to Star Wars enthusiasts.

Just last night, the red carpet was out in Los Angeles and all the biggest stars came together to celebrate the premiere. Directed by JJ Abrams, the movie will continue the battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Although she sadly passed away before this project came to fruition, Carrie Fisher will appear in the film as Princess Leia.

According to Abrams, the team had footage left over from The Force Awakens and this will allow the famous character to return yet again. Abrams said, upon finding the footage, ‘they’re like these gifts…and so, we got to actually have Carrie in the movie and she’s great in the film. It’s just, it’s so impossible to think that she’s not here.

With Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac taking center stage, they were joined by a host of other stars for the spectacle. When Friday comes, we’re sure the world will be talking about The Rise of Skywalker.

Cats Premiere in New York

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country in New York, fans of a different nature were gathering for the premier of Cats. In a star-studded cast, Idris Elba led the way and has been very open and positive about the number of famous names in the movie. For those who haven’t seen, Elba is joined by Taylor Swift, Dame Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Derulo, James Corden, Ian McKellen, Rebel Wilson, and Ray Winstone.

Playing Macavity, Elba noted that this movie has been ‘one of the best film experiences I’ve had.’ Previously, we’ve covered how Taylor Swift has taken the cat training seriously (INTERNAL LINK) while also being excited about singing the soundtrack for the movie, a song written with Andrew Lloyd Webber (the writer of Cats: The Musical). Originally, the musical was actually based on T.S. Elliot poetry, so it seems apt that the cast is a blend of British and American talent.

Which film are you more excited to see? If you could only see one, which would you choose?
