For
the past decade, the Kardashians
and Jenners have been in thousands of headlines all over the world.
However, this is one we never thought we would write. That’s right, Caitlyn
Jenner is heading into the jungle after what’s thought to be a record-breaking
fee was agreed with the ITV show in the UK.
At
the age of 70, Jenner will be stepping foot into the jungle with a number of UK
celebrities and sports stars in what has become an institution of a show
through the years. Although faltering in the US, the original UK version of I’m
a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here has been aired every single year since 2002
and remains popular in the lead up to Christmas.
Starting
on Sunday, Jenner has been confirmed
in the lineup
and some sources claim she is earning up to £500,000 ($642,000) depending on
her performance and whether she sticks it out. Though family members are said
to be confused by her decision, Caitlyn says that she’s excited to get a break
from the world. Also, she says ‘I am also very handy making things and I am
good at boiling water.’
In
an interview in preparation for the show, Caitlyn noted that this would allow
her to leave everything behind while cleansing the soul at the same time. Of
course, those who watched the 2003 US version of the show will know that she
appeared alongside Melissa Rivers, Tyson Beckford, and the eventual winner,
Cris Judd. This time, she will have campmates that include England rugby star
James Haskell, former Arsenal soccer star Ian Wright, Girls Aloud singer Nadine
Coyle, and several others.
Americans
in the UK Version
As
mentioned, I’m a Celeb (as it’s affectionately known) is now one of the most
popular TV shows in the UK
and Brits look forward to its return every year. As a result of its popularity
and the challenges it presents, this isn’t the first time an American has
entered the jungle. In fact, the list is quite extensive.
Back
in 2005, Jimmy Osmond became one of the most high-profile Americans to take on
the show and he managed to finish in fourth place. Following this, Osmond went
on to appear on many other UK shows including Come Dine with Me, Celebrity
Masterchef, and All Star Family Fortunes. One year later, David Gest also
finished fourth while Janice Dickinson set a record for most completed
Bushtucker trials as the public voted for her to take on challenges TEN TIMES
in a row.
After
these three set the stage, plenty more Americans have appeared including;
- George
Takei (3rd place)
- George
Hamilton (7th place)
- Ashley
Roberts (2nd place)
- Alfonso
Ribeiro (7th place)
- Kendra
Wilkinson (6th place)
How
will Caitlyn Jenner cope in the jungle with only the bare necessities and
several strangers to get by? It will certainly be an interesting watch and
we’re sure several highlights from the show will make their way onto American
TV!
