Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale has been all the hype ever since the first few trailers dropped. One big reason? The return of everyone’s favorite Brendan Fraser. The man who was a heartthrob early on in his career playing iconic roles in movies like The Mummy and George of The Jungle took a step back from Hollywood.

But now, after years of struggle and pain, Brendan Fraser is back and stronger than ever before. The man has truly worked to survive some of the worst things in his life and still managed to retain his incredible talent.  And it has all come to fruition. Fraser has taken home the best actor award for his portrayal of Charlie in The Whale.  In the movie, Fraser plays an overweight English teacher who attempts to connect with his daughter.

Fraser Gets Emotional

The win was a very emotional moment for the actor who has struggled to find work in Hollywood. The journey of his character, Charlie, felt much like his own. While Charlie struggled with his weight and the grief of a loved one, Fraser fought with his own demons, trying to find the pieces that fit. He was visibly overwhelmed as he accepted the award and gave his speech:

“I’m thankful to Darren Aronofsky for throwing me a creative lifeline and hauling me aboard the good ship, The Whale,” said Fraiser. “I started in this business 30 years ago and things didn’t come easily to me,”

Fraser has had a long career playing a plethora of roles. Charlie was one of his most innovative and challenging roles yet. The actor first starred in the 1991 film called Dogfight. Today, the actor is 54 years old, and his acting skills are more raw than ever before.

“I just want to say thank you for this acknowledgment.”  Said Fraser as he accepted the award. Tears could be seen all over the room as the deserving actor received the biggest prize he could.
