Are you heading to
the cinema this weekend? If so, what do you plan to see? This is the question
that Americans all over the country are asking, and it’s a difficult one to
answer. No less than four films will be released this weekend and it all starts
with the favorite, Terminator: Dark Fate.
Terminator
to Top the Charts?
For those who have
followed the Terminator franchise since 1984, there’s a huge wave of excitement.
Back in 2015, movie creators teased crowds with a return, but some were
disappointed that it didn’t involve Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role.
After all, he was the face of the franchise for the first three movies and
earned swathes of fans as a result. Instead, it was Jason Clarke who took the
hot seat. Although drawing in $440 million in box office revenues, the movie
pulled in less than $90 million in the US.
Initially, movie
experts were expecting big things from Genisys in 2015, and it was
actually supposed to be the launch of a new trilogy. Yet, it raked in just $27
million on debut and torpedoed.
For Dark Fate,
lots more is expected. Not only is Arnie returning to his throne as the Terminator,
Linda Hamilton is back for her own prestigious role as Sarah Connor. As it
opens in over 4,000 theatres, some are predicting a $40 million opening weekend
alone.
Stiff
Competition Elsewhere
As mentioned, Terminator
won’t have a simple trip to the top as three other movies enter the theatres
this week. As well as Arctic Dogs from Entertainment Studios, there’s Harriet
from Focus, and Warner Bros’ Motherless Brooklyn. Even after this, there
are a number of movies expecting growth whether it’s Parasite, The
Lighthouse,
or Jojo Rabbit.
How could we also
ignore Joker and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil? Even ignoring box
office revenues and rankings for just a moment, it’s a good time to be a fan of
cinema and the many great films on offer finally bring to an end what has been
a quiet time after Disney’s dominance for the earlier part of 2019.
Putting
His Heart into the Project…Literally
Not so long ago,
Arnie revealed the sixth movie in the franchise was nearly disrupted as he
underwent a heart operation. Even though it was a routine
procedure, we have since learned that complications meant that the movie star
and former politician was left in a bad condition on the operating table.
Despite this, he had just one worry on his mind; messing up the filming
schedule.
After just a week
of the scare, he was back in the gym and now believes he is in a good enough
condition to reveal all once more. According to Schwarzenegger in an interview,
it’s all about ‘more reps’ and training more as we age. Fortunately, he lived
to tell the tale and we can all see the latest instalment of Terminator
with Dark Fate this weekend!
