Compared
to Christmas and Halloween, Thanksgiving is incredibly unlucky when it comes to
movies, TV show episodes, TV specials, and even in music and other forms of art
(when’s the last time you heard a Thanksgiving album?!). Don’t worry, we’re
here to help. What should you be watching as you travel home to gather with
family members and old school friends?
Friends
Could
this first one BE anymore obvious? In the 25th anniversary year of this
great sitcom, why not sit down and join Chandler, Monica, Ross, Rachel, Joey,
and Phoebe again? Luckily, Friends was on air for a whole decade and they
included a Thanksgiving
episode in every single season.
South
Park
For
those who don’t have to worry about sensitive ears, the ‘Hellen Keller! The
Musical’ episode of South Park has gone down in history as one of the
best. Although known for political commentary, South Park is also a show
that’s able to take something simple and transform it into something absurd and
hilariously funny.
Gilmore
Girls
Available
on Netflix, Gilmore Girls has been incredibly popular over the years.
Even if you haven’t seen it, we still believe you can dip into ‘A Deep-Fried
Korean Thanksgiving’ from the third season. Like most of us tomorrow, Rory and
Lorelai push the boundaries of their stomachs as they attend four different
feasts across the day.
Miracle
on 34th Street (1947)
But
wait, we hear you scream, this is a Christmas film. You’re right, but the movie
also starts at the Macy’s
Thanksgiving Day parade
and this fact is often forgotten. At the last minute, Kris Kringle is required
to step in for Santa, who turns up drunk. If you’ve managed to stay away from
Christmas films so far, perhaps this can be your first of the season?
Home
for the Holidays (1995)
Feel
as though your Thanksgiving meal will be hectic and slightly awkward? Then
you’ll fit right in with Home for the Holidays. As the name suggests,
Claudia Hunter decides to go home for Thanksgiving. With everything from a cute
love story to tension between family members, this movie has everything you
need.
How
I Met Your Mother
Back
to the TV world, How I Met Your Mother is like Friends in that
they celebrated Thanksgiving a number of years. If you’re new to the show and
want something funny to enjoy, try ‘Slapsgiving’ from the third season. With an
ongoing ‘slap bet’ between Barney and Marshall, everything comes to a head as
Lily prepares a delicious meal.
It’s
Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Again,
this is one for the adults, but ‘The Gang Squashes Their
Beefs’ is a brilliant watch.
After noticing they had beef with several people around the city, they attempt
to bring everybody together for reconciliation with hilarious consequences.
