Anya Taylor-Joy is one of the most active and busiest actors in the industry, with a number of projects streaked up for release. Possibly the most anticipated one is her collaboration with director Ridley Scott for the Mad Max: Fury Road spinoff Furiosa, a role for which she recently finished her scheduled production.
The Queen’s Gambit actor spoke of her experience in an interview with Indiewire, filming Furiosa was “the grungiest and the most bloodstained I have ever been, which is saying something, genuinely expressing something.” Anya further added, “Any time I get to be messy or bloody and not perfectly straitlaced and pretty, I’m just having a prom, that’s where I feel most comfy. So yeah, Furiosa was undoubtedly right up my roadway.”
Furiosa sketches the spinoff to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, where Anya Taylor-Joy will step into the shoes of Imperator Furiosa, which was initially played by actor Charlize Theron. Anya shot the film in the Australian Desert over the year. “I have been playing some different game on a different planet for the past seven months,” she clamored. “I guess for the challenge I took In these last seven months, I must sit down quietly and try to think and digest what’s transpired all this while. But I’m extremely, extremely proud of it, and so proud of all of the people I got to work with, and just the bunch of love and effort and work that ran into it, I’m keen to see it.”
Filming for the Mad Max spinoff also demanded a lot of driving, as Furiosa is well-known for being one of the most proficient drivers to have prevailed in the wasteland. Anya Taylor-Joy divulged how she took up the risk and challenge for the part. “I don’t truly have an actual license, so I can’t drive legally. Honestly, I can’t get behind the wheels on a highway, and I can’t parallel park, but if you want me to do a sleek 180 in a truck, I can do that and not hit the camera folks, which is something to be bragged about,” she laughed and said.
Alongside Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead, Furiosa also stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, and Angus Sampson and it is set to release on May 24, 2024.
