Adam Driver is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and one of his latest films is all set to make a big entrance at the Chinese box office. China had closed its market to Hollywood, considering the films to be a threat to Chinese traditions and norms. Especially once the pandemic took its toll, the box office suffered due to a lack of one of the world’s most populous markets. However, China is slowly re-opening itself to Hollywood films, with Avatar: The Way of Water being one of the highest-grossing films in the Chinese markets ever. Now, Sony’s 65 has found itself a release date in China. Here’s the official plot summary of the film.
After a catastrophic crash on an unknown planet, pilot Mills quickly discovers he’s actually stranded on Earth — 65 million years ago. Now, with only one chance at a rescue, Mills and the only other survivor, Koa, must make their way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures.
Release Dates
The one-and-a-half-hour sci-fi flick will officially release everywhere on the 10th of March, Friday. However, for the Chinese markets, the film will spread its wings on the big screen on the 31st of March. Currently, the film has not received great criticism, with an IMDb rating of 5.8/10. However, the plot is interesting, and audience reviews can often turn the tide for many films.
Many suspects that the film could suffer because of competition coming from Paramount’s Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which also releases on the very same day. While no official ratings are available for this film, many enjoy the premise as well as the cast. There’s really no way to tell until both films open.
Meanwhile, Cameron’s Avatar 2 has already made a staggering amount of about $250 million in the Chinese markets, with films like Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania not doing very well.
