Barbara Broccoli, Ian
Fleming’s James Bond producer, has knocked out the possibility of a female
playing the role of the iconic British spy.
The latest movie from the
franchise “Not
Time to Die” is set for release in April, and the last in
which Daniel Craig will appear as the tuxedoed secret agent. And for now, no
one knows the actor that will take up the role when Daniel Craig steps down
from the role.
No Female Can Take Up the
Role of the British Spy
According to the
American-British producer, James Bond can be played by an actor of any color,
but not be a female.
Barbara Broccoli told a news
tabloid that changing the gender of the secret agent’s character will do women
a lot of disservices.
“James Bond can be a man
of any color, but he must be male,” the producer said. “I believe we
should focus on creating new characters for women, strong female characters,
for that matter.”
Although audiences from
around the world seem to be calling a little more diversity in movies these
days, the filmmaker who is the daughter of Albert R. Broccoli, the original 007
producer, stated that she is not particularly interested in having a woman play
the role of a male character.
Broccoli said, “I think women
are far more interesting than that.”
Who is the Next James Bond
after Daniel Craig?
So, the big question that is
on the lips of James Bond movie fans all over the world is “Who will take
over the James Bond role when Daniel Craig hangs the 007 tuxedo for the last
time?”
Many actors have been thrown
into the fray as speculations continue to swirl around Craig’s replacement
after “No Time to Die.”
One of the actors tipped for
the enigmatic role is Idris Elba. The actor, however, insists that introducing
a black 007 should be based exclusively on merit.
Elba told a magazine last
year that “James Bond is a hugely iconic, coveted, and beloved character that
takes audiences around the world on this massive escapism journey.”
He stated that he would only
accept the offer to play the role of the British spy if he was asked, though
Elba added: “But it is not something that I have expressed, like yeah, I
wanna be the black James Bond.”
Other Actors Tipped to Take
Up the Role of 007
Other actors that have been
tipped to take up the role of the iconic spy include Henry Cavill, Tom
Hiddlestone, and a few others. These actors have, at one time, acted stunningly
and impressively in spy movies.
The latest movie in the
franchise, “No Time to Die” will be Craig’s fifth and last 007 film. He has
featured in the following: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and
Spectre.
The new Bond movie which
features Oscar-winning
actor Rami Malek, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear,
Jeffrey Wright, Lea Seydoux among others, hits theaters on April 3, 2020, in
the United Kingdom. The movie will be available for viewing in the United
States on April 8, 2020.
