It’s Thursday, nearly time for the weekend, it’s time to have some fun. In the past, we’ve talked about the most unique celebrity pets and the best celebrity social media accounts to follow. Today, it’s the most outrageous celebrity purchases. We’ve all seen movie stars and singers doing work for charity, but what do they do with the rest of their money?
Lady Gaga – Ghost Detector ($47,000)
Lady Gaga has dominated the world of singing and won lots of awards over the years, so the people in this life clearly love her. However, it’s the people in another life that worry her, and this led to an almost $50,000 investment in an electromagnetic field reader.
Nicolas Cage – Dinosaur Skull ($276,000)
In all honesty, we could write a whole article on the spending of a certain Nicolas Cage. According to reports, he owns;
- Three castles
- 22 cars
- Two islands
What do his loved ones buy for his birthday? Impossible, right? Well, the purchase that really caught our attention was the skull of a Tyrannosaurus bataar. The story gets even stranger – Cage won the auction after outbidding none other than Leonardo DiCaprio.
Unfortunately, there’s a sour ending to this one because the fossil was illegally imported, and the paleontologist seller ran into trouble in 2013.
Kanye West – Gold-Plated Toilets ($750,000)
If you’re ever lucky enough to visit Kanye West’s mansion in Bel Air, be careful in the bathroom or you might just end up with a hefty bill on your way out. In a home that contains a movie theatre and a basketball court, West also had four gold-plated toilets installed in the style of Louis XIV.
Kim Basinger – A Town ($20,000,000)
That’s right, Kim Basinger once invested in a whole town of 1,750 acres. Together with a group of other investors, they bought nearly all of the 2,000 acres that was available to the private market and became the owners of most of Braselton, Georgia.
Initially, Basinger had huge ambitions and wanted to transform the town into a tourist destination. Just five years later, financial troubles arose, and the group sold the same land for just $1 million.
Bono – Hat’s Plane Fare ($1,500)
Have you ever boarded a plane only to remember something you’ve left behind? For most of us, we curse, feel frustrated for a while, and then get on with our trip. For Bono, he couldn’t deal with his favorite trilby being back in London, so he paid almost $1,500 for it to reach him in Italy. The trilby hat enjoyed a taxi to the airport, a first-class British Airways ticket, and then a taxi on the other side too. Who says rock and roll is dead?
Other Extravagant Purchases
Here are three more to keep you laughing (or shaking your head in disbelief!);
- Daniel Radcliffe and his $17,000 mattress
- A $80,000 diamond-encrusted barbie doll for Jay Z and Beyoncé
- Katie Holmes and an $850 purse for her 3-year-old daughter
